2013 BC Athletics Annual Awards presented Saturday

Richmond - The 2013 BC Athletics Annual Awards Banquet took place December 7th at the Hilton Vancouver Airport Hotel, in Richmond BC. The 2013 Awards in all categories were presented to many deserving athletes, coaches, officials and executives in front of a sold out crowd.

Brian McCalder, BC Athletics President and CEO, and the emcee for the evening, had his work cut out for him announcing 37 Midget 15 Track & Field Athletes of the Year to start out the night.

Track and Field Award nominees are announced prior to the event in each category: Youth, Junior and Senior females and males. Athletes of the Year are then named in each category at the Awards Banquet. Those who took home the prize were:

Pulling ahead in the end of the competition, Dylan Armstrong won the Bronze Medal in Shot Put at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in August. He also finished 3rd in the 2013 Zurich Diamond League and it is ranked in the Top 5 in the World.

Another highlight of the night was the Ian McNeil Award for Official of the Year, which was presented to Judy Armstrong on behalf of Cliff Weathermon. Cliff passed away earlier this year in tragic car accident. He was the President of the Kamloops Track & Field Club at the time of his passing.

Also in attendance were many athletes who represented BC and Canada on Canadian teams this past year. They were recognized for their achievements.
