2014 Cross Country Season Preview

Fall is traditionally the season for cross country running, and the 2014 season is just around the corner. BC Athletics encourages runners of all abilities to get off the road and track, and experience the joys of hill and dale.

The Lower Mainland Cross Country Series kicks off on September 20 at the Pinetree Classic in Mundy Park, Coquitlam. The series provides age group races for JD and Midgets; and Youth, Juniors, Seniors and Masters.

In the Interior, actions gets underway on September 28 at Campbell Mountain in Penticton. The series is primarily for Junior, Senior and Masters, with distances around 7.5 – 9K. Though some events provide shorter distances for younger age groups.

The Q’s Victoria Race Series is attempting to resurrect cross country running on the Island with races of multiple distances at Beaver Lake, starting on September 6.

The BC Cross Country Championships for all ages will be taking place at Clearbrook Park in Abbotsford on October 25. The Championships will be used to select teams to represent BC at the Canadian Cross Country Championships.

The Canadian Cross Country Championships complete their four year run at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver on November 29. New this year, the Canadian Championships will include Youth Championship races in addition to Juniors, Seniors and Masters. The Junior and Senior Championships will be used to select teams to represent Canada at next years NACAC and IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
