Road Race Measurement Seminar

BC Athletics and the Vancouver International Marathon Society hosted a road race measurement seminar in Vancouver on October 17 and 18, 2015. The course was led by IAAF Grade A Measurer Paul Adams and assisted by Grade C Measurer Geoffrey Buttner.

The course was attended by five new measurers:

  • David Vanderlinde, Cowichan BC
  • Jonathan Foweraker, Victoria BC
  • Kathie Schellenberg, Langley BC
  • Eric Chene, Vancouver BC
  • Kirill Solovyev, Vancouver BC

During the two days the group was very enthusiastic and their discussion was wide ranging touching on almost every aspect of road race measurement.

In addition to almost 9 hours in the “classroom” the group established 2 new calibration courses and all participants measured a complex 5 km “race route” which the team dubbed the Vancouver Industrial 5km. At the end of the 2 days all participants felt comfortable in setting up a calibration course, safely measuring a road race and completing all necessary paperwork using the Athletics Canada on-line road race certification process.
