World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Report - Athletics Canada and BC Athletics Statements

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Report – Athletics Canada Reaction

Athletics Canada today (Nov 9/15) issued a statement in response to the WADA Report on allegations of widespread doping, cover ups and complicity by the Russian Government and the Russian Athletics Federation.

The text of the Athletics Canada statement reads:

First and foremost, we are very disappointed to hear the details of today’s announcement.

Athletics Canada is strongly in favour of ongoing investigations into systematic doping with severe sanctions for any athlete, coach or federation in contravention of the World Anti-Doping Code, and ethical sport practices.

We are committed to working with the IAAF, anti-doping agencies and international federations to rid the sport of cheaters, ensuring Canadian athletes are on an even playing field at all international competitions.

BC Athletics Response to the WADA Report

As a member branch of Athletics Canada, BC Athletics fully supports the position of Athletics Canada regarding the investigation, exposure and sanctioning of those who are found to have contravened the World Anti-Doping Code and Ethical Sport Practices.

Those who have cheated and set aside the values of fair and ethical play have no place in sport nor as role models and heroes to the youth of British Columbia, Canada and the World.

We encourage the IAAF, under the leadership of Seb Coe, to work thoroughly and expeditiously to remove from Athletics, those individuals and nations who are found to have knowingly turned to doping as their road to excellence and podium performances.
