Evan Dunfee Walks to another Canadian Record

At the Jesse Bent Memorial Cheetah Meet in Coquitlam on Sunday, Evan Dunfee added the Canadian 10,000m race walk record to the 50km record he set last December in Australia. Walking at the end of the meet, he completed 25 laps of the track in 39:21.30, to better the existing record of 39:26.02 set by Guillaume Leblanc in 1990. Remarkably Dunfee had walked 40km in training earlier in the day, as he prepares for the Rio Olympics this summer.

This Friday night Dunfee will set his sights on another Canadian record, when he races 5,000m at the Harry Jerome Track Classic. The time to beat is 18:45.64. But Dunfee will face stiff competition in his quest, because unlike Sunday, his Canadian teammates Ben Thorne (IAAF 20km World Championship bronze medalist) and Inaki Gomez (Canadian 20km record holder) will also be on the startline.
