Claire Morgan and Derek Vinge win Frontrunners Island Race Series

The Sooke River 10K was the concluding race of the eight race 2014 Frontrunners Island Race Series (http://vira.bc.ca/series/) that started with the Prairie Inn Pioneer 8K in January. A total of 274 individuals ran the minimum races required to qualify for series awards.

In the overall standings, Claire Morgan took the overall top spot, having improved in each of the past four years. Her average score of 827.4 was a 2 point improvement over last year. Second female was a newcomer to the series, Jill Ramstead, with 772.2 points. Cheryl Davies rounded out the top three with a point average of 762.8.

Derek Vinge leap-frogged to the top of the men standings, having placed third last year. His average was 824.4, an almost 10 point improvement over 2013. Nick Walker took second, the same position he occupied last year, with 817.4 points. And third was another newcomer, Thomas Holm, a Norwegian studying at the University of Victoria, who averaged 805.0 points.

Series age groups are determined by age as of Dec 31, 2014. The winners were:

In the club standings, Prairie Inn Harriers won once again, but the margin of victory continues to decline as they accumulated 3,408 points. Comox Valley Road Runners were second with 2,739 points, and Bastion Running Club placed third with 2,107.
