High Jump Clinic with Boswell & Boateng

Attention all high jumpers, their coaches, clubs and Track & Field fans!
Canada's two best high jumpers, Mark Boswell and Kwaku Boateng, are providing a clinic for BC athletes.

The clinic will take place on June 5, 2003 at 6:00 pm at Clement Track (North Side), Minoru Park, Richmond, BC.

In this 1.5 - 2 hour clinic you will hear some really useful advice from the top Canadian performers in High Jump. Bring your questions and they will try to answer them. If you are lucky enough you can get a postcard with their autographs. Do not miss this rare opportunity to learn from the leading athletes of the Canadian Team!

HUMAN INTEREST:
Boswell is the Canadian record holder in the high jump...he won a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships, setting a Canadian record of 2.35m...also broke the Canadian Indoor record at the 2000 NCAA Indoor Championship with a jump of 2.33m...won an unprecedented 4 consecutive NCAA Championships and 19 consecutive high jump titles...was awarded the gold medal (tied with countryman Kwaku Boateng) at the 1999 Pan American Games after first place Javier Sotomayor of Cuba tested positive...is the 1996 World Junior high jump champion and after entering the competition ranked 12th, he set a personal best performance (2.24m), he became the first and only Canadian to ever win the World Junior Championships...his 2.33m win at the 1999 NCAA Championships lead the world rankings in JUN 99, and tied the Canadian Outdoor record with Milt Ottey (1986)...has been most influenced by his club coach, Gary Lubin, and his mother for her support without pressure...in 1996, he was honoured by the City of Brampton and presented with a special plaque from the Mayor...was named by Maclean's magazine as one of "100 Canadians to Watch"...

Boswell grew up in Jamaica where his family was involved in track - he tried everything, including the shot put, but was afraid to try high jump because they didn't have any landing mats...moved to Canada in 1988 and started high jumping...father is Levi and mother is Norma...has 3 sisters: Norma, Yazmine and Claudette...attended Central Peel High School, which raised funds to assist with his trip to the 1996 World Junior Championships in Australia...had to forgo his senior year of his scholarship in order to concentrate completely on the Sydney Olympics...returned to Texas JAN 01 to fulfill his College diploma requirements....would like to pursue a career in business...enjoys music, reading and collecting sports cards...
