BC Athletics has applied for funding to support the employment of a Summer Student. The funding, at this time, has yet to be confirmed. However, on the chance that the BC Athletics application will be supported, we have initiated this job posting.

Job Position: Program / Administrative Assistant
Length of Employment: 16 to 11 weeks (anticipated - based on the funding support through SCPP)
Starting Date: Earliest starting date: Monday, May 5/03 / Latest starting date: Monday, June 9/03
Ending Date: Friday, August 22/03

Program requirements for all applicants:

  1. Be a full time Post Secondary Student.
  2. Be intending to return to Post Secondary School full time in September 2003.
  3. Be legally entitled to work in Canada and cannot have another full-time job.
  4. Not be a family member or related to members of the Board or Staff of BC Athletics.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Weekly email bulletin - assisting in the assembly / managing of information and circulation
  2. Computer entry of results & production of weekly and season end ranking lists by event/age group
  3. BC Team Program - assisting with information to athletes and staff; event entries; accommodation & travel
  4. Marketing assistance - BC Championships, Events and Programs
  5. Website assistance (updating information, creating new pages, posting information)
  6. Calendar of Events & BC Athletics Handbook 2004 - development and preparation of event listings
  7. Other duties as assigned from time to time

Hours per Day/Week: 7 hrs per day / 35 hrs per week 

Salary: $11.00 per hour

Job Location: BC Athletics Office, 1367 West Broadway, Vancouver

Preferred and Beneficial Skills:

  1. Self starting/initiating, organized individual with problem solving capabilities
  2. Experience in sport as a participant, organizer or event volunteer
  3. Word Processing; Excel Spreadsheets; Website design and posting; Hy-Tech Meet Management software
  4. Experience at working with volunteers
  5. Good writing and speaking skills
  6. Previous working experience

This position will also involve: a) travel throughout the Lower Mainland - driver’s license and access to a vehicle may be needed; b) the position may also require lifting and set up of various materials.
