2001 BC JUVENILE TRACK & FIELD TEAM

SELECTION CRITERIA and STANDARDS

for the

NATIONAL LEGION TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS and CAMP - AUGUST 9 to 16 - Sherbrooke, PQ

 

NOTICE:  JUVENILE AGE ATHLETES MUST INDICATE ON THE ATHLETE DECLARATION FORM WHICH TEAMS THEY WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR.  THOSE JUVENILES WISHING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE CANADA SUMMER GAMES TEAM MUST COMPETE IN THE CANADA SUMMER GAMES SPECIFIC TRIALS EVENT.  JUVENILE AGED ATHLETES CHOOSING TO CONTEST FOR A BERTH ON THE CANADA SUMMER GAMES TEAM WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THE BC JUVENILE TEAM AS A CRITERIA 3 ATHLETE. BY PUTTING NAMES FORWARD, IT IS UNDERSTOOD AND AGREED TO BY THE COACH, ATHLETE, PARENT AND/OR CLUB THAT ALL BC TEAM AND OTHER FEES RELATING TO BC TEAM SELECTION WILL BE PAID TO BC ATHLETICS UPON NOTIFICATION OF ATHLETE SELECTION.

 

Athlete Declarations are due at BC Athletics by July 13th, 2001.  Please fax to  604 737 3171, c/o Kevin Tyler.

 

Selection to the BC Juvenile Team will be based on the criteria as outlined below.  PLEASE NOTE IT IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME IF THE YUKON TERRITORY WILL COMPETE AS PART OF THE PACIFIC COMMAND TEAM.

ATHLETES WISHING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR SELECTION TO THE BC JUVENILE TRACK & FIELD TEAM MUST:

1.     Meet the BC Athletics General Criteria for Funding Support and Selection.

2.     Take part in the BC Athletics Juvenile Track & Field Championships in the event(s) they wish to be considered for.  BC JUVENILE T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS - July 13 to 15/01 at Rotary Stadium, Abbotsford.  Hosted by the Valley Royals T&F Club - Individual and Combined Events

3.     Meet the Selection Criteria, which include the funding standards.

SELECTION CRITERIA      - Athletes achieving the funding standards will be considered for selection in the following order:

1.     Winner in standard in the selection meet;

2.     Non winner in standard in the selection meet;

3.     Winner in 3% of the standard or better in the selection meet;

4.     Non winner in 3% of the standard or better in the selection meet;

5.     Athletes unable to compete in the selection meet for the reasons as listed below will have their performances considered relative to criteria 3, 4 & 6.  Notification in writing to BC Athletics is required prior to the start of the first day of competition;

a)    Illness - a medical certificate is required plus a fitness test and the attainment of a standard prior to selection.

b)    Injury - as in the above.

c)    Domestic affliction.

d)    Graduation from Secondary or Post Secondary School.

e)    Conflict with a competition deemed to be of greater importance, notification of which must be made to BC Athletics at least 2 weeks prior to the selection meet: ie. Canadian or BC Team Competition; Canadian Championship.

6.     Other athletes may be considered for selection based on their nearness to standard and medal potential should spots remain open.

 

BC ATHLETICS WILL NOT CONSIDER ATHLETES FOR TEAM SELECTION WHO PASS UP THE BC SELECTION MEET FOR REASONS OTHER THAN THOSE NOTED ABOVE.

 

NOTE: The number of athletes selected per event is 2.  The ability to double in events will be an important consideration.  The team size is 40 athletes plus 8 staff.

 

AGE ELIGIBILITY: Only athletes of the Juvenile age group will be considered for BC Athletics selection.  Age must be either 16 or 17 on or before December 31, 2001.

Women’s hurdles are 80m for the Legion Camp at .840m (33inches)

Women’s hurdles are 100m for the BC Juveniles at .762 (30 inches) (8.5m spacings).

Men’s hurdles are 100m for the Legion Camp at .990m (39 inches).

Men’s hurdles are 110m for the BC Juveniles at .914m (36 inches) (9.14m spacings).

****In the national legion competition the combined event for the women is the heptathlon with the

order of  events being: Day 1: 80mh, high jump, shot put, 200m.  Day 2: long jump, javelin, 800m.

****In the national legion competition the combined event for men is the heptathlon with the order

of events being: Day 1: 80mh, high jump, shot put, 200m; Day 2: long jump, javelin, 800m.

 

Standards are based on the average of the 3rd place performance in the 2000 BC Juvenile, the national

Legion Competition, and the 2000 selection standards, unless noted.  Standards may also be adjusted

by the BC Athletics Event Group Committee to better reflect the expected performance levels of Juvenile

athletes on BC Teams.  Achieving the funding standard does not guarantee selection.
