Athletics Canada Branch Meeting Report

At the branch meeting held on Friday, Dec. 5th, the various branches offices representing the provincial athletic associations had a very constructive conference.

A recommendation was made to AC to change the date of the AGM to a June date and have the Technical Congress and the SAGM switched to the December date. This recommendation was passed by the membership at the AGM held on the following day .

There was a concern brought up as to who was actually in charge of AC. At present things seem to be functioning well, given that Joanne Mortimer is the Administrator in charge of the non-technical aspects and Alex Gardiner, Head Coach is in control of the technical side of the operations of AC.

A question arose regarding the need for standardization of results across the country. Should we all be using Hytek? It appears that this is not the case and a suggestion was made to Cecil Smith, chief statistician, to consider standardizing meet results.

There was a positive feeling of trying to encourage dual meets between Provinces, Provinces and neighbouring States and even with other Countries.

It was also noted that AC has outsourced an Ad. Agency to look for ways to increase revenue for AC. There is a one year contract with no commission and the expectation of $ 150k in cash /kind. We were told that the cost of this agency was $ 60k.
