Fundraising:

Kamloops Track and Field club members raised over $30,000.00 to again purchase equipment so that club and regional athletes, School District #73 could benefit.

Kamloops also held the International Hammer Event providing transportation, accommodation for the athletes attending. This event the media promoted educating the hammer event.

Membership in the Kamloops Centennial Meet increased this past year with schools and clubs from Saskatchewan and Alberta participating. This meet will continue to grow as schools and clubs locally will have an opportunity to compete in a meet before BC High School meets start.

Club membership increased this year providing the provincial body with more funding. We have increased the participation at the JD Level due in part to the fun program we have provided over the last 4 years. We have employed 5 coaches and working on having another full time coach in the fall of 2004.

The Kamloops Track and Field Club full time coach Derek Evely was part of the original organizing committee formed to promote an indoor facility in Kamloops. Many club members worked on promoting this facility which would include an indoor 200 meter track, full weight room, office spaces and many more benefits too numerous to mention. This would allow Kamloops to host the first indoor meet in the province. Members gave presentations at many events as well as promoted this facility through advertising, financially and presentations to service clubs. On November 1 the referendum went through and we are in the process of finalizing details on the new indoor facility to be constructed in 2005 and a new track, new throwing and jumping areas to be complete in the fall of 2004. A dream becomes a reality. We look forward to hosting indoor meets in 2005.
