Okanagan Regional Centre
2003 Report
The Okanagan Centre supports athletes and coaches from Revelstoke to
Osoyoos. The 2003 track and field season was full of great successes and
accomplishments.
Current Year Successes and Accomplishments
Athletes on BC Teams:
- Senior Nationals 1
- Juvenile Legions 6 (3 Medals)
- Western Canada Games 6 (4 Medals)
- Junior Nationals 2 (1 Medal)
The Okanagan also had three very talented athletes selected to the
Canadian team for the Junior World Championships.
Two Special Olympic Athletes selected to compete at the Special
Olympics World Championships in Ireland, returning with a total of three
gold medals.
Coaching Courses and Workshops
During the year, the following coaching events took place in the
Okanagan Region:
- Hosts for two NCCP Level I Technical courses (March and November)
- total of 20 new coaches successfully certified
- A NCCP Level II Technical in Distance was held in February
- 6 participants successfully completed
- Provided an in-service for School District #23 (Central Okanagan)
teachers.
Track and Field Clinics and Camps
- 9 full day school clinics
- 2 half-day clinics with local soccer teams
- 1 full day sport camp in partnership with Sport Kelowna
- 1 Sport Psychology workshop for coaches and athletes
Hosted Events
- Jack Brow Memorial Meet
- 2 Hershey Youth Meets
- Junior Development Pentathlon
- 2 Twilight Meets
Off-Season Training
- Partnership with Courtplex Fitness Centre for 2 days a week of
general strength training and conditioning.
- 2 days a week of training in school gymnasium
- Plans for use of new indoor facility due to open March 2004
Total Number of members Served: 180 (approx. includes athletes and
coaches)
