BC Athletics - Zones 1, 2 Report
ZONE 1:
Trail Track & Field Club
- the Trail Track Club is an athletic association dedicated to
developing athletes to their full potential.
- the club provides an excellent place for athletes to train,
especially through the winter months.
- sprinting and endurance running help to maintain conditioning and
build speed, while the throwing and jumping events test and develop
flexibility and strength.
- the club offers training in sprints, distance running, hurdles,
long and triple jump, shot put, discus, javelin and hammer.
- the Trail club moved indoors to the Willi Krause Fieldhouse at the
end of October.
- training sessions are run every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 8
pm.
- Trail will be hosting their 14th indoor meet on February 19, 2005,
sponsored by the local branch Royal Canadian Legion.
- the meet runs from 10 am to 2 pm , the events being Shot Put, High
Jump, Long Jump, 50m and 800m.
- points will be awarded for participation and results. Ribbons as
well as an aggregate trophy to be presented to the club or school
with the most points for the day.
- Trail will host the 4th Annual Royal Canadian Legion Outdoor Meet
on May 14, 2005 at Haley Park.
- This meet is open to athletes born in 1996 or earlier. The seven
events are 60m Hurdles,100, 400 and 800m, High Jump, Long Jump and
Shot Put.
ZONE 2:
Penticton Track & Field:
- the club hosted 9 all-comers meets this season. Will continue with
the same format in upcoming year.
- club will continue to host BC Interior Championships
- club focus will be on JD development, differing from original
emphasis on 15 + years.
- 7 coaches will be working approximately 50 club members, 35 of
whom are JD's
- organizational matters are getting special attention as the club
develops.
- the club goal is to establish a working liason with school, city
and community
- track and field in schools is dying out so club involvement is
becoming more important.
- Penticton Pounders Running Club also involved with track club, and
more members participating in All-Comers Meets.
Kelowna Track & Field Club:
- a special AGM was held in the fall of 2004 in an attempt to
resolve internal coaching issues.
- a new executive was elected in the hope of putting aside past
differences and forging a new agenda.
- winter training has been somewhat curtailed while awaiting the
opening of the indoor track facilities at The Capital News Centre.
- the indoor training facilities are now complete and the executive
is in the process of finalizing access for their winter training
groups.
- The success of the measures adopted will be determined when the
coaches interact with the athletes in the new season.
- Kelowna has purchased new pole vault mats and hopes to begin
building a formal pole vaulting program this year.
- The club currently has 144 athletes, an increase of 12 over 2003,
with 74 renewals.
Kamloops Track & Field Club
- one of the most exciting developments for the club has been the
breaking ground for new athletic facilities.
- by May of 2005 the first phase of the development should be
completed ( outdoor facility), and work should be well underway for
the second phase ( indoor facility)

- 2004 saw the largest growth in club coaching. 4 coaches earned
their level 1 or 2 NCCP certification.
- internationally recognized Ukrainian coach Anatoly Bondarchuk will
be joining the coaching staff this season.
- Kamloops hosted numerous competitions, including four high school
competitions, numerous elementary meets, The Kamloops Centennial
Championships and the BC JD Championships. These competitions served
over 3,000 athletes.
