BC Team Performs Well at Canadian Junior Track and Field ChampionshipsJuly 12/05—The 30 athletes on the BC Junior Team that traveled to Montreal, Quebec for the 2005 Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships from July 8th to July 10th returned home after many great performances. Their efforts produced 4 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals, 12 bronze medals, and 13 Top 8 performances. Ten athletes booked themselves a ticket to the Pan American Junior Championships at Windsor, Ontario taking place from July 29th to July 31st. On the men's side Michael Mason was successful in defending his championship title in the High Jump with a leap of 2.10m. First year Junior, Aaron Dixon, was a clear winner in the Decathlon, grabbing the other gold medal for the men. Chris Winter was runner-up in the event he won last year, the 3000m S/C, but was certainly pleased with a personal best of 8:54.99 and a trip to the Pan American Juniors. The women were not to be outdone, led by the surprise performer of the meet for Team BC—Camille Richard. Richard brought home two medals in two events, winning gold in the Triple Jump and bronze in the Long Jump. The always strong Corri-Ann Campbell-Fell contested both the sprint and distance hurdles, following up a 5th place finish in the 100mH with a personal best of 60.08 and gold medal in her marquee event the 400mH. The throws produced two silver medals, the first for Rochelle Kokayko of Kelowna in the Hammer, and the second for Mikaela Patterson of Abbotsford in the Discus. Patterson's achievement is even more impressive when you consider that she spent the early part of her season sidelined with a knee injury that required surgery.
