BC Team Excels at Canadian Senior Track and Field ChampionshipsJuly 25/05—The BC Senior Team returned home from Winnipeg, Manitoba, site of the 2005 Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships from July 15th to 17th. There performances were not unrewarded, producing 2 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals, 5 Bronze medals and 11 top 8 results. Gary Reed picked up his third title in as many years in the men’s 800m final. Having already achieved the World Outdoor standard in lowering his own Canadian Record earlier this year, Reed was simply looking for victory, securing the win early by setting a strong pace that proved to be too much for Achraf Tadili of Montreal. With his place in Helsinki confirmed Reed heads back to Europe to prepare for the World Championships. Fresh off of her pending Canadian Record performance at the Trevor Craven Memorial Meet, Jennifer Joyce captured gold in the women’s hammer throw competition. The Richmond native has shown consistency in her performances and will look toward Helsinki as an opportunity to set her national mark even farther. Novelle Murray affirmed her selection to the FISU Games team with a bronze medal performance in the women’s Discus event. The FISU Games is a World University Championships in selected sports and takes place this year at Izmir, Turkey from August 11th to August 21st.
