Reed Sets Another National Record in Oslo

August 1/05—Only one Canadian was in the lineup at the Bislett Games in Oslo, but he made an impression nonetheless. Setting his second National Record of the year, Gary Reed ran to a 4th place finish in the 800m in a time of 1:44.54. This was a great race for Gary and showed that he is a legitimate top five threat for Worlds.

The lineup in this race was deep, with current world leader Mbulaeni Mulaudzi taking the win and Olympic champ Yuriy Borzakovskiy finishing 2nd. Gary was only a stone's throw off the lead and was in the race throughout. Mulaudzi of South Africa is looking like the man to beat in Helsinki. Gary bested Borzakovskiy once this season and has not been out of contention in a race all year. With some experience now under his belt, it will be interesting to see how Gary handles rounds in prep for a big final.
