FUNDING
Direct Access Program - CHANGES - Effective April 1, 2003
The Government of British Columbia has introduced changes to the Direct
Access Program for the distribution of revenues earned from casino and
lottery gaming to community organizations across BC. See: http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/gaming/
ROAD RUNNING
* Road Running Committee Participation
In keeping with the B.C. Athletics Strategic Plan a call for
applications to participate on the Road Running Committee is now being
circulated via this e-mail. Please contact jerrytighe@bcathletics.org

Applications are needed for the following areas, and groups:
1.) Zone 1, Kootenays, Zone 2, Okanagan. One
person.
2.) Zone 3, 4, 5 . Fraser Valley, Fraser
Valley-Delta, Vancouver-Squamish. One person.
3.) Zone 6, Vancouver Island. One person.
4.) Zone 7, North West, Zone 8, Cariboo-North East. One
person.
5.) Junior Development Group. One person
appointed by the committee.
6.) Juvenile, Junior, Senior Committee. One
person appointed by the committee.
7.) Masters Committee. One person appointed
by the committee.
8.) Retail industry, one representative.
9.) Official. One person appointed by the
committee.
10.) Athletes. 1 - Female & 1 - Male.
11.) At Large 2 people.
Purpose: To review, recommend and evaluate programs designed
to guide the development of road running as an Athletics discipline in
British Columbia within the framework of the BC Athletics Strategic Plan
2001 - 2005.

1.) If you enjoy talking to runners, volunteers are needed in 3 hour
blocks to assist at the BC Athletics booth. Questions posed by out of town
participants will need to be answered as well as queries from locals
needing to know more about the benefits of joining BC Athletics.
2.) Drivers will be needed to pick up elite athletes from the Vancouver
International Airport and bring them to the Hyatt Hotel.
3.) At the finish line we need volunteers to accompany and guide the
elite athletes to the media/press area.

(4.) A driver at the start of the race to take the elite athletes warm
up gear to the finish area.
* adidias Vancouver International Marathon, Half Marathon and Canada
Kids MaraFun:
This long time Vancouver event has registration up 61% year to
date. 6,000 runners will be allowed in the Half Marathon, 5,000 in
the full marathon and 1,000 in the Kids Marathon ( 1 mile) for a total of
12,000 participants. The finishers shirts done by the Inuit Gallery
will be a huge hit and definitely one the runner will be proud to
wear. The next early registration deadline is March 28th.

National Team Coaching Apprenticeship
Program
Applications are now being accepted for the 2003-2005 National Team
Coaching Apprenticeship Program. This program is designed to provide
opportunities for Canadian women coaches to work with their national team
programs leading up to and during the 2003 Pan Am Games and/or the 2004

* PacifiCanada Track & Field Series
The PacifiCanada Track and Field Series features a combination of six
open and invitational meets, 67 track and field events and over $20,000 in
prize money. The series, which runs from June 4 to June 11, allows
athletes to accumulate points through the series with cash prizes awarded
to the overall winners. The events are as follows:

The Harry Jerome International Track Classic and Victoria International
Track Classic are invitational track meets while the other meets in the

& Field Championships - Victoria, BC July 18-20th.
Accommodations in Victoria book up quickly, so we urge you to book now!
The Host Hotel for the event is the Traveller's Inn. Information about

The group rate for the Nationals is $89.95, but this rate is ONLY in
effect until May 1st, so book now to receive this rate! The hotel provides

721-8395 and ask for the group rate for the Canadian National Track &
Field Championships. A single room is $44.00 incl. taxes (bed &
