ROAD RUNNING

You've run the Sun Run and are now curious about how much faster you can run? The best way to improve is through intervals and the BC Athletics Road Running Performance Clinic is the best way for novices to be introduced to interval training. Exact time targets are given for each participant for each distance done and you are matched with others of the same level. The groups are very mutually supportive and many get together to do their long runs, etc. too, for which times and distances are also provided on an individual basis each week. Coaching is provided by John Hill, a former winner of the Vancouver Marathon (1978), who is a fully certified Level 2 coach who has been conducting these clinics since 1986. On- line application at:

Thursday, May 1st 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Friday, May 2nd 10:00 am – 9:00 pm
Saturday, May 3rd 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
If you enjoy talking to runners, volunteers are needed in 3 hour blocks to assist at the BC Athletics booth. Questions posed by out of town participants will need to be answered as well as queries from locals needing to know more about the benefits of joining BC Athletics.

SHANE WIEBE TO COACH IN KAMLOOPS
The Kamloops Track and Field Club have announced the hiring of Shane Wiebe. Shane, a former Decathlete, past Head Track and Field Coach at Trinity Western University and 2001Team Canada FISU Coach, will take on coaching responsibilities and assist Centre and Kamloops T&F Club Head Coach Derek Evely. Shane’s Track & Field roots are in Kamloops, where he competed from 1981thru 89 and was head coach of the club from 1990-93.

DEREK EVELY KAMLOOPS COACH OF THE YEAR
At the recent Kamloops Hall of Fame and Athlete of the Year Banquet Coach of the Year honours went to PacificSport Regional Track and Field Coach, Derek Evely. From Coaching the High Performance Group, overseeing the club coaching program, organizing club, invitational and school competitions, to coordinating the major club funding raising initiatives, Derek has raised the performances of the athletes and raised the profile of the Kamloops Track & Field Club.

IAAF RULE BOOK - ABRIDGED EDITION 
The IAAF Rules of Athletics Competition 2002 - 2003 book is now available at BC Athletics.
This "Little Red Book" is an abridged version of the IAAF Handbook 2002 -2003 and contains only the rules of competition without the first 90 pages of IAAF information. The book is constructed to lie flat as well - making it much more useful in the field. Canadian/BC variations will also be included.
