Race Directors' Survey

NOTE: The survey is now available to complete on-line though the BC Athletics website at:

Dear Road Race Organizers/Directors:

Athletics Canada through the Run Canada Committee and with the support of the Provincial Branches of Athletics Canada and their Road Running Committees/Divisions/Associations, has initiated a process through a survey to Road Race Organizers/Directors, to gather and review information relating to:

  • the road race you organize and details relating to your race;
  • the road race sanctioning process in each province/territory;
  • the requirements for sanctioning road races;
  • your understanding of the benefits to sanctioning road races;
  • what benefits you would like to see from a sanction;
  • the value to the road races of sanctioning;
  • how value for sanctioning can be enhanced;
  • your ideas, suggestions or models to determine the future of road race sanctioning in Canada.

The goal of this initiative is "To create a uniform process across the country, administered provincially and nationally, so that races are treated equally and runners know what to expect from a sanctioned race."

The responses to the survey will be put into a report which could serve as the basis for discussions at and possible recommendations from a Race Directors meeting to be held in Ottawa, May 26/05 and the Athletics Canada Annual General Meeting of May 27, 28, 29, 2005.

This survey is located on the BC Athletics website at: and on-line at We also sent it directly to as many BC road race organizers/directors as possible.

Please take the opportunity to provide your input.

Thank you very much.
