CCES Statement on Sport Nutrition Products

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport has released an official statement on sport nutrition products and their lack of adherence to federal regulations. The advisory can be found at:

2005 Harry Jerome Scholarship Award


This award is administered by BC Athletics and financed by the Vancouver Foundation. The regular competition for this award will close at 4:30pm on the 3rd Friday of May each year.

Eligible applicants must be residents of British Columbia and matriculating students progressing to full-time post secondary study. Scholarship(s) will be awarded to individual(s) who: have demonstrated exceptional ability and show considerable promise in Track & Field, Road or Cross Country Running (Athletics); demonstrate financial need; have attained an acceptable academic record and; have demonstrated qualities of character and leadership.
Award amount is based on available funding from the Vancouver Foundation.

BC High School Track & Field - news and updates

The BC Secondary School Cross Country Track & Field Association published their annual toplist rankings for High School teams recently and has announced the addition of a grade 8-9 championships to the schedule for 2005.

If you're looking to find out the top ranked schools and some of the key athletes to watch, the BCSSCCTFA has released their annual top 10 ranking for this years upcoming BC High School Track &Field Championships. (Many thanks for Laurier Primeau in compiling this list).

This year we have confirmation that the BC High School Championships will now feature a grade 8-9 BC High School Championships. These events will co-exist with the existing BC High School Championships on June 3 & 4, 2005 at Swangard Stadium.

Road Running

Summer 2005 Road Running Performance Clinic with John Hill

May 11, 2005 to September 21, 2005

This clinic is for all runners who wish to improve their running fitness level and performance. Should already be comfortable running 25-30 miles per week (regardless of pace). Includes a formal interval training session every Wednesday night, plus coaching and personal consultation from John Hill (certified Level 2 coach). Presented by the Road Running Division of BC Athletics.

Simon Fraser University High Performance Speed - Strength Training Camps

The Speed-Strength camps are for male and female athletes 13 years and over, who want to make the jump to the next level, including making a high school, club, provincial, national, college or professional teams.

All camp athletes will be provided the following:

  • Proper warm-up and cool-down protocols
  • Elite level sprint training and Olympic weightlifting technique
  • Jump technique and explosive power training
  • Appropriate stretching and joint mobility training
  • Injury management and rehabilitation techniques
  • Digital video analysis of training performances and much more!

Program Manager: Youth Development, for the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre

The Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre was established in October 2003 with support received from the Edmonton 2001 Athletics Legacy Foundation. The Coaching Centre is located in Edmonton, Alberta and its mission is "to create a Canadian Centre dedicated to the participation and excellence in Athletics through mentorship, education, competition and research for coaches and participants involved at all levels of the sport." The role of the Centre is to deliver coaching education programs in partnership with Athletics Canada.

The Program Manager, Youth Development, will be part of the senior leadership team of the Centre, and will have supervisory responsibilities over program coordinators while guiding the activities of provincial Run, Jump, Throw coordinators. The Program Manager will report directly to the Director of the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre.

2005 Canadian 10K Championships - Letters of Intent Requested

Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for track and field, cross country and road running in Canada. Our purpose is to support high performance athletics excellence at the world level and to provide leadership in developmental athletics is to provide leadership, development and competition that ensure world-level performance in athletics. Our key event properties are the best opportunity to showcase our sport and raise awareness and interest in our programs and services, and therefore must be planned and presented in a professional manner. The organizers selected to host the events must be willing to work in close partnership with Athletics Canada to meet and exceed expectations in this regard.

We currently seek suitable host organizations for the 2005 Canadian 10K Road Running Championships.

Athletics Canada invites interested parties to submit a Letter of Intent to host the championship event listed above. All Letters of Intent must be submitted with the following information:

  • Championship event to be hosted;
  • Name and location of facility/event;
  • Name(s) and position(s) of key event organizer(s) including Meet Director;
    Commitment in principle to work in close partnership with Athletics Canada and its corporate and funding partners in hosting and presenting all aspects of the event;
    Summary of previous experience in hosting similar events;
  • Provincial branch endorsement;
  • Host facility endorsement (if applicable).

Submission of Letters of Intent: Friday, May 20, 2005
Detailed bid submission outline sent to bidding parties: Friday, May 27, 2003
Completed bid packages submitted to Athletics Canada by: Friday June 17, 2005
2005 event bid package reviewed and championships awarded by: Friday, July 8, 2005
Preferred event dates: October 8-9, 2005

The Letter of Intent to advise Athletics Canada of interest in hosting any of these championships must be received by Athletics Canada no later than Friday, May 20, 2005.

Victoria High Performance Meet on May 14th

The meet will be part of the Dogwood Meet and will take place the evening of Saturday May 14th. The high performance section will include 800m, 1500m, and 5000m races for both males and females.

NorWesters Track & Field Club looking for JD Coaches

NorWesters Track and Field Club is looking for assistant coaches to work with their Grade 3 to 6 Junior Development athletes. Great for someone who wants to train in coaching track and field as the club will pay for training. Applicants who have experience competing in hurdles, throws or jumps will have an advantage. Those who have completed Level 1 NCCP in track and field, or higher, will be paid.
