Important reminder for Track & Field Meet Directors!

This is an important heads-up reminder for all track and field meet directors that are sanctioning their respected competitions.

  • With many athletes trying to qualify for various provincial and national teams, please make sure that your throws events are weighed and measured correctly. It is important that you communicate this request to the BC Athletics Officials responsible for the throws before the competition commences.
  • Make sure the implement weight (in metric only) for each throws event contested is clearly noted in the title of the event and your results listings ie: "Sr. Men's Hammer (7.260kg)". This is critical for rankings, records and team selection.
  • Make sure that hurdle heights are clearly noted in the title of the event and your results listings: "Juvenile Women 100mH (33")"

Employment & volunteer Opportunities

Attention all Island coaches and other interested individuals.

In an attempt to improve the opportunities for Wheelchair athletes in Athletics here on the island, Peter Lawless and Al Johnston are looking for individuals who would be interested in acting in a supervisory role during workouts for these athletes (particularly in the North). Programs will be devised by Peter and your job would be to oversee their completion. Should anyone become interested in furthering their knowledge in the this area, technical courses will be provided.

Athlete identification (both young and old) will be another facet of this role. There are a number of potential athletes in our communities who have little knowledge of the opportunities we offer. We need to let them know we exist and that their are a number of opportunities in a number of event areas in which they can get involved.

If you are interested in this and would like more information feel free to contact Al Johnston allen_955@yahoo.ca or Peter Lawless p_lawless@hotmail.com.
