Sport Nutrition Seminar November 19th

PacificSport Vancouver will be hosting a Sport Nutrition Seminar on Saturday, November 19th from 10:30 am to 12 pm. This informative session will be open to all PacificSport Bronze athletes, their parents, and coaches from the Greater Vancouver Area who are interested in learning more about sport nutrition. It will be an educational seminar designed to assist elite athletes by providing nutrition information for peak performance and recovery.

The guest speaker for the seminar is Dallas Parsons (RD, BSFN) who is an expert Sport Dietitian and motivates athletes to eat an optimal sport diet that fuels athletic performance.

The Sport Nutrition Seminar will focus on an athlete's nutritional intake before, during, and after training or competition. This will be an interactive session where questions are encouraged by the audience.

All athletes from any discipline (individual and team) are encouraged to attend. Athletes who live at home are also welcome to bring their parents, as they are often responsible for household nutrition and want to help their children meet their goals. Coaches are invited to gather specific nutrition information to pass along to their athletes to help maximize performance.

Our goal is to accommodate every interested participant; however, space is limited. The cost to PacificSport members or those affiliated with PacificSport is free (including parents). Any athlete, parent or coach interested in this event should please register online at, under the Events page (CSC Vancouver) in order to reserve your spot. Please note that drop in registration will not guarantee a placement.

Date: Saturday, November 19, 2005
Time: 10:30 am to 12 pm
Location: Langara College, 100 West 49th Ave., Vancouver, BC - Room A122a

If you have any further questions regarding the Sport Nutrition Seminar or registration issues, please contact Matt McMahon at (604) 730-7273.

Athletics Canada Athletes Shine at Columbus Marathon

October 21st, 2005

(Ottawa) Five athletes from Athletics Canada enjoyed strong performances at the 26th Annual Columbus Marathon, held in Columbus Ohio on October 16th. In the Open Men's Wheelchair division, Jeff Adams (Toronto, ON) took first place with a time of 1:30:17, Alan Bergman (Cobble Hill, BC) finished third in 1:32:04 and Mark Ledo (Maple, ON) finished in seventh spot with a time of 1:42:06.

Dean Bergeron (Québec, QC) finished with the fastest time of 1:59:16 in the Open Quad division, while Clayton Gerein (Pilot Butte, SK) was fourth fastest with a time of 2:16:15.

Adams has enjoyed a strong season, culminating with the first place finish in Columbus; earlier this year he finished second in the London Marathon, held in London England. He recorded another second place finish at the Paralympic World Cup in the 1900m Pursuit. He also finished second fastest at Rolling Rampage in Toronto, Ontario in the 10,000m.

Adams reflects on the 2005 season "I am happy with my season; it has been a little frustrating often finishing in the bridesmaid position (second place) in some instances by hundreds of a second, so it was nice to get a win in Columbus. At the same time it's nice to see how competitive the men's Open Division has become." Adams says he used his sub-par 2004 season as motivation for 2005 "I didn't have the greatest season in 2004, including at the Olympics or the Paralympics. I used that as a motivational tool for 2005."

Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for track and field, cross country and road running in Canada. Our purpose is to provide leadership, development and competition that ensures world-level performance in athletics. Our key event properties are the best opportunity to showcase our sport and raise awareness and interest in our programs and services, and therefore must be planned and presented in a professional manner. The organizers selected to host the events must be willing to work in close partnership with Athletics Canada to meet and exceed expectations in this regard.

We are currently seeking a suitable host organization for the following Athletics Canada Championship event:
