Sport BC Professional Development - Crisis Management Workshop

You've just hired a new coach. One week after you hired him, you receive a letter from one of his former athletes claiming he sexually exploited her and several other athletes. She is afraid of retaliation and does not want you to tell the coach where the information came from. What, if anything, should you do with this information? Or, an athlete discloses to you that she has a drug addiction. Should you keep the information confidential? These are just two of the scenarios that will be covered at the Crisis Management Workshop.

Presenter Brenda Taylor, Human Rights Director, Simon Fraser University, has an extensive background in human rights. She has been working for SFU as a lawyer since 1998. Brenda has conducted presentations on important topics such as athlete selection, the rights of both athletes and coaches, as well as other harsh, yet mandatory topics like sexual harassment and discrimination.

BC Athletics has only 2 seats available for this important workshop. Those interested in attending should contact Sam Collier ( no later than Friday May 19th to reserve a seat. We will also keep a list of everyone who is interested and Sport BC will make every effort to accommodate all interested parties.

The three-hour workshop will be held in Room 106 at Sport BC on Wednesday, May 24th, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
