Website On-Line Registration Form Problems

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The various online registration and payment forms (with the exception of the Individual Membership form which is working properly) on the BC Athletics website have been temporarily suspended. They will be activated shortly once new programming requirements are dealt with.

We have experienced problems from May 16th. Some registrations did get through but most didn't. If you are unsure please contact Sam Collier at with details on your submission(s) and she can verify for you. You can also print out the form and re-submit it to the BC Athletics office by fax at (604) 737-3171. We will make sure you are not charged twice.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and look forward to getting things back to normal as quickly as possible.

Re-Subscribe to Receive the BC Athletics Bulletin by Email

Unfortunately, when the BC Athletics Office changed computer systems at the end of May the BC Athletics Bulletin Subscriber list did not transfer to the new system. To receive the Bulletin by email, please re-subscribe by entering your name and email at We apologize for the inconvenience.

Update on the AC Direct Membership Database

All of the 2006 BC Athletics Individual memberships have now been entered on the new, national on-line database system - AC Direct. We are still in the process of tweaking the new system in preparation to hand over membership management to the club registrars. The Membership card production is the last function to be finalized and this is why we have been slow getting them out. I am hoping to get everything up to date within the next two weeks. In the meantime if you need your BC Athletics number or are not sure you've actually applied for your 2006 membership please use the Membership Number Check system now available through our website. It can be found at:

In order to set up AC Direct access for club Registrars we will need verification of who is your official club Registrar for 2006. Club Registrars must ensure that their 2006 BC Athletics memberships are in place prior to being able to use the system. Club Registrars should contact Sam Collier at and verify the following information:

  • Registrar Name
  • Club Affiliation
  • 2006 BCA #
  • Email address
  • Full mailing address
  • Phone contact

Once this information is received we can start setting up access to the system and get all the details out to each club Registrar.

Reminder to Meet Directors

This is a reminder to all meet directors to please submit your results as soon as you can following your event so that we can get them onto our website. Be sure to include the official event name, location (city), and date in the body of your message in order for the results to be posted correctly.

In addition, results must include implement weights, hurdle heights, and wind readings (where available) in order to be included in the BC Track and Field Rankings. If no wind index is available for the necessary events (100m, 200m, 100mH, 110mH, long jump, triple jump), the results will be placed under the illegal performance ranking. Year of birth of the athletes is also appreciated for the rankings.

Local Elite Runners and Bands Ready to Rock Record Field in Sunday's Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon

Two of BC's leading Half-Marathoners, Jim Finlayson and Steve Osaduik, will be leading a record field of 4500 runners in Sunday's Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon, as they try to steal the win from defending champion Giitah Macharia.

Steve and Jim recently placed first and second respectively in the Oak Bay Half-Marathon May 28th, each breaking the course record. Giitah Macharia of St. Catharines, Ontario has been burning up the east with a recent first place finish in the Sporting Life 10k in a blazing 28:52. Giitah is also the 2005 Canada Running Series Champion.

Most of Canada's strongest elite runners live and train in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, and you could hear the sigh of relief when four time defending women's champion Lioudmila Kortchaguina announced she would not be able to run the event this year. A great women's race is developing between Lisa Harvey of Calgary, recent new mother Leah Pells and local Tina Connelly, three strong runners who will be challenging each other for the women's top spot.

Rounding out the over forty elite runners, will be three of Canada's top over forty Masters runners. Norm Tinkham (Maple Ridge), Richard Lee (Port Coquitlam) and Jamie Black (Toronto), continue to challenge each other for top spot in the Masters category of the Canada Running Series, each running a challenging time in the low 70 minute range.

Keeping the runners energized and moving their feet will be five new live entertainment stations on course. Runners will find themselves rocking through UBC, as they run down to Spanish Banks to the Channel M Community Station featuring the jazz stylings of Buckwyld. They will run by two more live bands at Kitsilano Beach and English Bay, before coming into the finish with music of P-Shiv at Second Beach.

The Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon and 5k is the third largest running event in Vancouver and is part of both the prestigious Canada Running Series and Vancouver Sun Run Series. Five hundred runners will take to the paths in Stanley Park in a for fun 5km component on Sunday morning. The event is in support of VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation's Your Health - Your Choice Program, which supports a variety of health related causes at the hospitals. The event raised more than $160,000 for the Foundation in 2005.

Scotiabank Half Marathon Looking for Volunteers

The Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon, Sunday June 25th is looking for 25 volunteers to marshal along Marine Drive from Spanish Banks to Jericho. They would assemble at UBC, be dropped off by an event bus, and picked up afterwards and returned to UBC. If you are interested, please contact:
