SIRC May Newsletter features Marathons
Whether you are a veteran marathon runner or just getting started,
preparing for a marathon is hard work. There are many things to consider
before heading out for the big race.
A training program is one of the most important aspects of marathon
preparation. But which training program is right for you? How often should
you train? How can you improve your time? To help answer these questions
numerous scientific studies have been conducted. The risk of injury is
high for marathon runners; therefore it is important to be aware of the
common running injuries and how to avoid them prior to beginning your
training. Once race day arrives the planning continues, everything from
what you eat for breakfast to what clothing you wear may have an affect on
your results.

Some important notes on registration this year.
- You can register in several categories, but if you are planning to

on the back of the registration form. This will ensure that you are
included in members lists that we receive from BC Athletics
- If you are a member of a club your registration must go through your
club registrar. If you are an unattached official you can register
directly though Sam at BCA, just send her your form and payment,
either electronically or by mail. The fee is now $15.90
Event Check-in.
We are asking all event organizers to provide a signed area (table) for
officials check-in. When you arrive on the site, please sign in and let
the organizers know you are there. After you have done that, you can pick
up a copy of the officials event feedback form either at the check in
table or at the finish line. This form should be returned to the finish
line at the end of the day, and will help provide useful information for
all of us involved in trying to improve the world of athletics. The event
feedback form is also available in the new "Forms" section of
