Updated Track and Field Rankings
New BC Track and Field Rankings updated as of July 17, 2007. These do
not yet include the July 10th or 17th Hershey Harrier’s All-comers meets
or the BC JD Championships.
Awards for BC Juvenile Championships, 15 Year old Championships and
Midget Alternate Meet
Anyone who did not pick up their awards at the meet in Nanaimo on July
7 - 8 2007 and wants to receive them should contact the BC Athletics
office - jolfert@bcathletics.org
Attention Athletes competing outside of B.C.:
Please submit your performances (especially if they are season's
bests) for meets outside of B.C. and a link to the official rankings if
you wish to be included. We will try our best to search them, but this is
a timely process. This is very important for University athletes competing
during their university season. Please email performances to: cloehewitt@bcathletics.org.

Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships Live Results
The Canadian Junior Championships will feature Live Results on the
internet. Those not able to attend this year's Canadian Junior
Championships in Abbotsford should be able to keep abreast of the action
as the meet will feature results placed on the Championship web page (http://juniors.valleyroyals.org/)
minutes after the event is completed. Modification at the Swan Track and
the expertise of Jason Swan has made this valuable service available.
AWAD Results
All BC Athletics sanctioned events having an AWAD component to their
meet/race should be sending results in to the BCA office along with
Able-Bodied results. Any 2007 events that have already taken place are
asked to send in the AWAD results from their meet/race to sam.collier@bcathletics.org.
Attention BC Athletics Sanctioned Track and Field Meet Organizers:
Please be advised that this year's Results Round-up email address is cloehewitt@bcathletics.org.
Please send ALL meet results to this address.
Crucial to results rankings are:
- Wind Readings (100m, 200m, LJ, TJ, and Sprint Hurdles).
- Implement weights (The metric weight must be noted in event title).
- Electronic Timing (If times are not electronic, please let us know
since they are not valid).
- Please send results in a Hi-Tek / Excel spreadsheet.
- Indicate birth year, NOT athlete age in each event
Rising Stars in Athletics - This week's spotlight is on Brooke Pighin!

2004 - Midget Legion Team
2007 - BC Western Canada Summer Games Team/Dual Meet Team
2007 - BC JR Team
2007 - BC SR Team
Future Goals:
My future goals are to break conference records and such as I head down
to SLU for university this fall. I am aiming to be on the NCAA podium next
year as a freshman, and would like to qualify for World Juniors this
upcoming year along with breaking the Canadian junior record. As for long
term goals I plan on making the FISU games in 2009 and as every other
athlete to hopefully continue on to the Olympics one day maybe even 2012.
Favourite Track Experience:
The team trips traveling together locally, provincially, and even
nationally. My favourite experience is getting the chance to compete with
other elite athletes as teammates, opponents, and as friends. I enjoy
being able to learn from others through these experiences to continue to
move forward in becoming a well rounded athlete.

officials
OF PARTICULAR INTEREST TO OFFICIALS
Plan ahead! The Officials AGM will be held on October 28, in
Abbotsford, at Madison’s restaurant. Details to follow.
And speaking of the AGM, those in attendance last fall were treated to
a power point presentation, created by our own April Arsene, of “the
season in review”, full of photos of officials in action. She has agreed
to do another production, but will need you to send photos to her at arsene@telus.net.
When did you begin officiating? Please send your start year (or
as close as you can remember) along with your BCA number to Kathy
Terlicher at kdterlicher@shaw.ca.
The National Official Committee is honouring long time officials with
recognition at 25 years, and then for each five year span after that. But
they need your statistics to compile this history.
New (to us) Officials! A hearty "Welcome to British Columbia"
goes out to two officials; we are fortunate to have them re-locating to
our province, and look forward to seeing them at events this season.
Peter Hesketh is moving from Alberta to White Rock. He is very welcome,
and look at the talents: Vertical Jumps 5 and Throws Referee 3. Peter will
be in his new home at the end of May, and is already volunteering for
meets.
And Peter Francis (newly promoted to Horizontal Jumps 5,
congratulations) is moving from Manitoba to "somewhere near
Victoria" in the near future.

Developing Female Leadership in the Canadian Sport System:
Recommendations for High-Level Sport Organizations
Few would disagree with the contention that women’s leadership
differs from that of men. Difference, of course, does not imply
inferiority. Difference can be, and often is, positive. But because there
are precious few examples of women leaders within the context of Canadian
sport, there is, consequently, little opportunity to put women’s
leadership to the test. Yes, of course, there are some exemplary role
models. But a close examination of the administration, boards of
directors, and committees of sport organizations reveals a lingering
leadership imbalance, particularly when one factors in the recent
outstanding, dominating performances of Canada’s women athletes and
coaches on that great testing ground, the world stage.
New Sport Science articles are posted to the Canadian Athletics
Coaching Centre website every Wednesday. Access can be found at www.athleticscoaching.ca
