Winter 2008/2009 Road Running Performance Clinic

BC Athletics presents the Winter 2008/2009 Road Running Performance Clinic: "Interval Training"

Long Program 1: 26 weeks, Oct. 1, 2008 through to April 15, 2009
Long Program 2: 24 weeks, Oct. 22, 2008 to April 15, 2009
In the above programs no session Oct. 8, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31

Short Program: 15 weeks, Jan. 7, 2009 through to April 15, 2009
Drop-in: on any of the above dates

Wednesday evenings at 6pm, Brockton Oval, Stanley Park

This clinic is for all runners who wish to improve their running fitness level and performance. Should already be comfortable running 20-25 miles per week (regardless of pace). Includes a formal interval training session every Wednesday night, plus coaching and personal consultation from John Hill (certified Level 2 coach). Presented by the Road Running Division of BC Athletics.

The cost is:
Long Program 1: $170 + GST - registration deadline Sep 30
Long Program 2: $160 + GST - registration deadline Oct 21
Short Program: $125 + GST - registration deadline Jan 6
Late registration: add $10
minus $10 for BCA Athletics members. Drop-in $15.

The 2008 H2H is calling all BC Athletics Clubs

Does your club have a team or teams ready to take on the H2H 100km Road Relay challenge this November? The H2H is a great way to get your members together and compete for your club in this fantastic relay event.

We're also looking for some dedicated volunteers to man exchange points along the race route. We're looking to make the 2008 event even better with help from clubs like:

H2H has been a successful running event with amazing run exchanges over the past 26 years! We are hoping that your team/club is interested in assisting some of our current teams with one of our 8 exchanges!

Your team can be an integral part of this fun and exciting event for 2008.

BC Team Selected

2008 Trans Canada Canadian 10k Road Running Championships
October 18, 2008

Timex series final event will take place alongside the picturesque Ottawa River. The race starts and finishes at the Canadian War Museum.

Great North Run Half Marathon Newcastle, ENG

Jon Brown clocked the fastest half marathon time by a Canadian this year, finishing 11th in an international field in 1:03:36. David Jackson also had an excellent run, lowering his PR to 1:06:39 in placing 26th in a field of over 50,000.


Cross Country Championships Reminder

The BC Cross Country Championships will be held in Stanley Park in Vancouver on Oct 25. Details here: 

The BC Championships also serve as the qualifying event to select the BC Team to attend the Canadian National Cross Country Championships in Guelph, ON on Nov 29. Selection criteria can be found here:

Commonwealth Youth Games Team set for India

The 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games are right around the corner with the team undertaking final preparations to take on the world at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City in Pune, India.

The track and field team leaves for India via Toronto tomorrow where they have been holding a staging and preparation mini-camp.

Competition at the games begins this Sunday, October 12 with the Canadian track and field team making its debut October 14.

The 2008/2009 Para-athletics Athlete Assistance Program (Carding) Application deadline is Friday, October 17th, 2008.

This Development weekend will host -
a) Athletics Canada Athlete/Coach training Camp AND
b) the Ottawa Lions Coaching Certification program
AC Athlete/Coach Training Camp: Learn from the experience of present and former Olympians

Date: December 5, 6, 7, 2008
Place: Ottawa - at the Dome @Louis Riel, 1659 Bearbrook Rd - Canada's only 400m indoor track facility
Accommodations: Chimo Inn, 1199 Joseph Cyr Street , Ottawa, 1-800-447-4136 - Rate -$115 AC rate 2 queens per room

Objectives: For Development athletes in Power Speed events


Designed for: athletes and coaches in power speed events
Costs: $85 - Free for athletes in top 5 Junior (born 90 or after - 08 rankings) and 08 Team 12 athletes. Payment by credit card, cash or cheque by registration deadline .

Registration deadline: November 21 (Number of entries will be limited per event)
