ROAD RUNNING
2009 Lower Mainland Road Race Series
BC Athletics is pleased to announce the launch of the Lower Mainland Road Race Series. For 20 years, the Timex BC Road Running Series has existed as a de facto Lower Mainland Series. In 2009 an explicit Lower Mainland Road Race Series has been created, to complement an enhanced Timex BC Road Running Series and other regional series.
The Lower Mainland Road Race Series features ten of the best events in the Vancouver area, providing runners of all ages and abilities with the chance to compete against their peers. The series kicks-off at the St. Patrick’s Day 5K in Stanley Park on March 14, and concludes with the Richmond Oval 8K on August 16. The ten events feature races over 5K, 8K, 10K and the half marathon.
To qualify for series awards, participants must compete in a minimum of six events. Points will be awarded based on placings within 5-year age groups for men and women, from under 20 to over 70. A participant’s six best placings will determine their total points.
The remaining three of the ten series events are:
- July 18: Summerfast 10k, Vancouver
- August 2: Squamish Days 10k, Squamish
- August 16: Richmond Oval 8k, Richmond
For complete information about the Lower Mainland Road Race Series, as well as the individual events, visit the series website at www.lmrrs.com. Series news and rankings will be posted there after each event.
The Timex BC Road Running Series will continue to provide an opportunity to athletes from throughout the province to rank themselves against their peers, and serves as a selection to the Timex National Road Running Series Finale in Ottawa. For more information on the Timex BC Road Running Series, visit its website at www.bcathletics.org/RRSeries/.
The Lower Mainland Road Race Series will be one of four regional road race series sanctioned by BC Athletics in 2009. The others being the Frontrunners Island Race Series (www.vira.bc.ca), the Canadian Tire Interior Road Race Series (www.interiorrunning.ca), and the Prince George Grand Prix (www.pgroadrunners.ca).
For more information on any of the above road race series, contact Maurice Wilson at maurice.wilson@bcathletics.org or 604-333-3553.
