The 2005 Canada Games—A history
The Canada Games began as an idea in 1924. Seventy-eight years later,
their legacy continues to thrive across the country. The first
ceremonial torch was lit in 1967. Since then, at 2 year intervals, 18
more have been ignited to signal the start of successive Canada Games.
The City of Regina, along with Moose Jaw, Lumsden and Saskatchewan Beach
at Last Mountain Lake, are excited about the opportunity to host the
2005 Summer Games. A warm western welcome awaits the visitors,
spectators and athletes attending the country's largest celebration of
sport. Come join in the festivities!
