Introduction
The NEWS (North-East-West-South) Conference of the Lower Mainland was
developed with the goal of providing a low-key training format for
athletes to experience track and field meet competition in a more
informal setting than the club meets. The NEWS Conference meets
encourage competition while maintaining the spirit of fun, learning the
rules, and developing the technical abilities of each athlete.
The NEWS Conference is currently made up of nine Lower Mainland Track
and Field Clubs, sharing the common goal to develop athletes in the
Junior Development (ages 9-15)
The NEWS Conference involves the participation of Club coaches,
officials, and parents in operating and supporting the NEWS Conference
track meets.
There is a meeting of the NEWS Conference organizational committee,
made up of a representative from each member club, held once or twice a
year. The committee will:
- plan the year's NEWS conference meets, and set dates
- review the financial statement, and approve any expenditures
- review the status of member clubs, and add or delete if necessary
- elect new officers for the positions of President, Secretary, and
Treasurer.
Clubs not attending these meetings who would like to attend are asked
to contact Jackie Barrington at 604-944-1601 or jbarrington@shaw.ca.
