National Launch of RJT comes to Surrey

On February 26th two schools in South Surrey were the lucky recipients of a day of RJT instruction as Athletics Canada launched the new RJT program in BC. On hand to teach the children as well as sign autographs and tell their stories of how they reached world status were Victoria’s Gary Reed (800m) and Surrey’s own Stephanie McCann (Pole Vault). Students from Ray Shepherd and Crescent Park Elementary Schools were thrilled to meet and be taught by these two outstanding Olympians.

Second Annual RJT at Vancouver Sun Run and Times Colonist 10km!

Once again, RJT visited the Vancouver Sun Run on April 15th as a record-breaking 54,713 10km participants and 1500 Mini SunRunners participants took part. The RunJumpThrow instructors abilities were tested as they feverishly worked to keep up with over 200 youngsters who had a chance to try out various skills. And in similar fashion on April 29th as the Times Colonist 10km brought out thousands of participants to run, another 80 eager children experienced the RJT program first hand under sunny skies in front of the Provincial Legislature in Victoria.

Power of Sport in the Fraser Valley

RunJumpThrow was excited to once again be a part of the Power of Sport Tour, which headed to the Fraser Valley in April with stops in Abbotsford, Chilliwack and Mission. Over 1000 enthusiastic students in 5 elementary schools took part in our program. We are greatly looking forward to hearing about the running, jumping, and throwing that will be occurring throughout the Fraser Valley as a result of this success.

World Athletics Day promotes RJT

On Thursday May 10 Canada celebrated World Athletics Day with a High school meet hosted by Ocean Athletics in Surrey, BC. As part of the celebrations the Mayor of White Rock, Judy Forester, MLA of Surrey-White Rock Gordon Hogg, and Surrey Councilor Judy Higginbotham were on hand to watch how the sport of Track and Field can be enjoyed by so many and saw first hand how volunteerism can transform a community. Special RJT events were held for the younger elementary age children who received RJT participation ribbons and World Athletic Day pins.

Instructor Workshops

Teacher workshops took place this spring hosted by Vernon and Chilliwack School districts on February 17th. RJT presentations in Coquitlam and Surrey School Districts were also held. Thanks go out to our awesome new RJT Learning Facilitator and Ocean Athletics Coach, Maureen de St Croix for her energy and enthusiasm in hosting a weekend RJT instructor workshop for coaches, parents and high school athletes at Semiahmoo Secondary School February 23-25th.Following the Times Colonist event in Victoria UVIC Head coach Brent Fougner was instrumental in setting up an Instructor workshop for UVIC and high school students who are wishing to teach RJT as part of summer camps and club programs. Participants in all of these courses are well on their way to receiving NCCP certification. Good luck to the 48 New RJT Instructors.

Certification as an RJT Instructor - NCCP Ethics Evaluation Online

RunJumpThrow instructors who have completed the Instructor Workshop MUST complete this ethics evaluation online to complete certification requirements. The CAC has emailed instructions to all instructors in their database on the procedures for this 1-hour module. For more information, visit www.coach.ca.

*Please note: Instructors that have recently completed an RJT Workshop may not yet be entered in the NCCP database. Please wait for an email from the CAC before attempting to complete the ethics evaluation.
