Kamloopean Success!

The Run Jump Throw (RJT) program rolled into Kamloops for the Power of Sport Tour, taking place from November 15th-23rd, 2008. The tour features sport specialists from across the province delivering workshops, seminars, and presentations aimed to promote, teach, and foster involvement in amateur sport.

The RJT program had tremendous success as 12 new instructors were trained over the weekend-long, 15 hour instructor training workshop. Many of the newly trained instructors completed their practicum by touring to local elementary schools to deliver RJT activities and empower hundreds of children to be the best they can through sport and physical activity.

The tour included a very successful RUN JUMP THROW with the STARS event, which featured Dylan Armstrong, Sultana Frizell, and Jenn Joyce who came out to teach kids the skills of RJT, sign RJT trader cards, and tell the stories of how they got started in sport.

The RJT program would like to thank the following people and organizations for making the Power of Sport Tour a great success:

  • Kamloops Track and Field Club for their assistance with events.
  • Sport BC for organizing the Power of Sport Tour.
  • Over 800 enthusiastic students in 6 elementary schools in Kamloops who took part in the RJT program!

From Enderby, BC to Amman, Jordan – RJT Gets Around!

After wrapping up the Kamloops Power of Sport Tour, the RJT program was in Enderby, BC for a direct delivery to an elementary school. The students and instructors demonstrated their enthusiasm for RJT activities by braving cold temperature (2 degrees Celsius!) for over 90 minutes of outdoor RJT activities.

The Run Jump Throw program made its overseas debut in Amman, Jordan for the Generations for Peace Camp 2008, a 10 day gathering of leaders of youth living in high conflict zones across the world. More than 70 participants from 16 nations, including Jordan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Afghanistan are took part in the camp, which was held from November 25 to December 5. Through a series of workshops, interactive seminars, presentations, debates, dialogue, role-play and sporting sessions, Generations for Peace uses sport as a vehicle for peace building in conflict-laden communities and stresses adaptations for people with differing abilities. The camp involved international sport organizations for table tennis, softball, volleyball, athletics, and soccer.
