2008 BC Athletics Student Summer Employment Opportunity

Note: BC Athletics has applied for funding under the Federal Summer Jobs Program. In anticipation of support BC Athletics invites applications for the following summer position. (Position may be funding dependent)

Job Position: Programs and Information Assistant
Estimated Length of Employment: 16 weeks
Estimated Starting Date: Earliest possible starting date: Monday, May 12/08
Ending Date: Friday, August 29/08

Program requirements for all applicants:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
  • Not be a family member or related to members of the Board or Staff of BC Athletics

Job Responsibilities:

  • Marketing and Communications - assisting with program and event promotion, media releases, weekly BCA Bulletin, sponsor servicing and the development of promotional materials.
  • Strategic Plan - assist in the preparation of information and materials to assist in the implementation of the Strategic Plan
  • Results, Rankings, Statistics - assist with the assembly, validation of competitions and results for posting on the Athletics Canada and BC Athletics rankings program on the website.
  • BC Team Program - assist with the team entries, travel, accommodation, communications with athletes and team staff and uniforms for 2008 BC Teams competing in National Championships, Dual or Tri Meets.
  • Leadership Training Programs - assist in communications, information and the preparation and assembly of materials for Coach, Official, Run Jump Throw and Athlete Workshops and Camps.
  • Filing System - assist with the re-organization of the office filing system and ongoing management of files
  • Other administrative duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Hours per Day/Week: 7 hrs per day / 35 hrs per week 
Salary: $15.00 per hour
Job Location: BC Athletics Office, 3820 Cessna Drive, Ste 190B, Richmond, BC

Preferred and Beneficial Skills:

  1. Self starting/initiating, organized individual with problem solving capabilities
  2. Experience in sport as a participant, organizer or event volunteer
  3. Event promotion, marketing and sponsorship
  4. Computer knowledge and experience with: Word Processing; Excel Spreadsheets; Access; Website design and posting; Hy-Tech Meet Management software
  5. Experience working with volunteers
  6. Good writing, speaking skills and sense of humour
  7. Previous work experience

This position may also involve: a) travel throughout the Lower Mainland - driver's license and access to a vehicle may be needed; b) the position may also require lifting and set up of various materials.
