COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Championships will be run in Jericho Beach Park, one of Canada's most picturesque urban ocean waterfront parks. The course is run entirely on grass, trail and hard packed woodchips. The majority of the 2km loop is flat with some rolling sections and a hill. 9mm spikes recommended.

FACILITIES AND OTHER SERVICES

The Championship Headquarters will be the downtown Empire Landmark Hotel www.empirelandmarkhotel.com

The JERICHO SAILING CENTRE will be used for on site registration on Saturday. It will house the results centre, doping control, massage therapists, cafeteria, showers, washrooms, telephone and Athletics Canada services. Bus shuttle from the hotel will drop off there. Plenty of parking available. Souvenir garment will be on sale.

  • Medical: Medical personnel will be on duty adjacent to the Championships course.
  • Doping Control: In accordance with Athletics Canada Policy, doping control testing may be carried out at the Cross Country Championships.
  • Results: Results will be posted at the race by the lifeguard station and at www.raceheadquarters.com.

ONLINE REGISTRATION:

Nov 30: Online registration is now closed.

The on-line Team Declaration form is also closed. Print out the Team Declaration Form and submit it at the Technical Meeting Friday night at the Empire Landmark Hotel.

For the Community/Open and Kids races, entries will be taken at the Empire Landmark Hotel at Package Pick-up from 2:00pm - 5:00pm on Friday, December 1st and on Saturday, December 2nd at the Jericho Sailing Centre up to 1/2 hour prior to race starts with close-offs as follows:

  • Children's 1K entries will close at 9:30am
  • Community/Open 5KM entries will close at 9:45am

Entry Fees:

  • Children's 1K - entry fee is $10.00 for BC Athletics/Athletics Canada members and $13.00 for non-members
  • Community/Open 5KM - entry fee is $30.00 for BC Athletics/Athletics Canada members and $33.00 for non-members

Nov 29: Online order forms for pasta dinner, awards banquet and t-shirts are now closed.

  • A limited number of tickets for both the Pasta Dinner and the Awards Banquet will be available for purchase at package pick-up on Friday, December 1st (1:00pm - 5:00pm) at the meet hotel.
  • T-Shirts will also be available for sale on Friday and at the venue on Saturday, December 2nd.

Note: Clubs/Provinces wishing to enter a large group of athletes at one time should use the Group Entry form (see mail in forms section below).

Group Entry Form Instructions:

Clubs/Provinces wishing to enter a large group of athletes at one time can use either form option:

  1. If you have Excel please download the Excel file, save it to your computer and complete, then email to sam.collier@bcathletics.org.
  2. If you do not have Excel please print out the PDF file and fax it in to BC Athletics along with any other orders.

Fees due should then be transferred to a Payment Summary form. Include this form with any other ticket or T-shirt order forms. You only have to put your credit card info on the Payment Summary Form. Submit to the BC Athletics office:

All Championship Entries must be received by Wednesday, November 22, 2006.

NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION EXCEPT FOR CHILDREN'S & COMMUNITY RACE.

The following will be treated as late entries and charged the late entry fee:

  1. Entries received after the date indicated as Entry Deadline
  2. Entries not accompanied by proper payment
  3. Incomplete entry forms (except for the athlete's signature, which can be added at registration in Vancouver).

RACE PACKET PICKUP

Envelopes will be labelled by Teams or Individuals.

  • Friday, December 1 - Race Packet pickup at the Empire Landmark Hotel 1:00 pm  - 6:00 pm
  • Saturday, December 2 - Race Packet pickup at the Jericho Sailing Centre at race site 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

ELIGIBILITY

Please refer to Athletics Canada's Competition Rule 86 http://athletics.ca/article.asp?id=166

For the 2006 Canadian Cross-Country Championships, Junior & Senior only, the following athletes are eligible to compete:

Athlete Citizenship Eligibility

  1. Canadian Citizens who are Athletics Canada members;
  2. Only Canadian Citizens are eligible to be declared Canadian Champions and receive a medal, award, or financial recognition.
  3. All athletes must be a member of Athletics Canada in order to be eligible to compete. Membership must be obtained through one of Athletics Canada's provincial branches.

Non-Canadian Citizens

The following non-Canadian citizens are also eligible to compete:

Note: Non-Canadian citizens are not eligible to be declared Canadian Champions and receive a medal, award, or financial recognition.

  1. Canadian Permanent Residents (Landed Immigrants) who are Athletics Canada members and full-time residents of Canada;
  2. Athletes who are claiming refugee status, and foreign athletes who are temporary residents of Canada due to business, study or family reasons, providing that they are Athletics Canada members and have been a resident in Canada for at least six months prior to the date of competition.
  3. Foreign athletes who are in good standing with their national athletic organization, who have been invited and have had their applications accepted. Acceptance of these entry applications are at the approval discretion of the Director of Endurance Events. Athletes in this category will not be required to obtain Athletics Canada membership.

The Canadian Masters Championships are open to all male and female masters and sub-masters aged 30 years and over on race day. Male and female competitors will run in the same race. Because sub-masters (men and women 30-34) are a CMAA classification, they are eligible to run in the Masters race.

CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Junior and Senior

Championship medals will be awarded to the first three eligible finishers in each division at the Awards Banquet. Only Canadian Citizens can win individual Canadian Championship medals.

Masters

Top 3 male and female in each 5 year age Masters and sub-Masters age categories will receive CMAA medals. Individual age group Master's medals will be presented at the Cross Country course one hour after the race. The Team Awards and the Bluenose Trophy will be presented at the banquet.

CANADIAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

A -Team/Club Championships   &   B - Team/Region-Branch Championships
There will be a Canadian Championship competition for Club and Region-Branch in the Junior and Senior categories.

Championship medals will be awarded to members of the top 3 declared teams. Teams must be declared on the Championships Registration form as outlined and confirmed no later than 9:00pm Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Technical Meeting (See "Team Declaration Form")

Team Size for both Team Championships (See A & B above):

  • Senior Men 7 with 5 to score Junior Men 6 with 4 to score
  • Senior Women 6 with 4 to score Junior Women 6 with 4 to score

As far as teams are concerned, Canadian permanent residents, non-Canadian residents (claiming refugee status), foreign athletes and athletes that have been members of Athletics Canada for at least six months prior to the Championships, can be scoring members for their team. However, they still are not eligible to win individual Canadian Championship medals.

The Team Awards and Provincial Bluenose Trophy will be awarded at the Awards Banquet.

TEAM SCORING

Junior and Senior

Team scores will be based on the official order of finish. Team scores will be tabulated based on scoring positions. Ties will be decided in favour of the team whose last scoring member finishes nearer to the first place position.

Masters

Club teams, in 10 year age groups, will be:
Masters M30/M40/M50/W30/W40 6 Runners, 4 to Count
Masters M60/W50 5 Runners, 3 to Count
Masters M70/W60/W70 4 Runners, 2 to Count

Team scoring will be based on total time.
Females may run on male teams, but not the reverse. Note that all competitors on a Club team must be bona fide, paid members of the same Club; provincial teams do not quality as a Club team. Teams must be declared no later than 9:00pm Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Technical Meeting (See "Team Declaration Form")

Provincial team competition for the "Bluenose Trophy" will be based on the top four (4) age-graded provincial results.

SOUVENIR T-SHIRTS

A limited number of colourful championship souvenir garments will be available for sale on Friday and Saturday in the registration area. You can also pre-order using the T-shirt Order Form (online form now closed, see note below). Shirts are $22.60 each including taxes ($20 + 1.40 PST + $1.20 GST = $22.60.)

  • Nov 29 update: Online T-shirt order form is now closed. T-Shirts will be available for sale on Friday and at the venue on Saturday, December 2nd.

FRIDAY PASTA DINNER

An athletes/coaches pasta dinner with sauces, bread, salad & ice cream will be served. 

A limited number of tickets are available for $12 + .72 GST = $12.72. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Reserve your tickets by Friday, November 24, 2006 by submitting the Pasta Dinner Order Form (online form closed, see below).
