In Memoriam: Densile Mensah 1979 - 2002

On May 11, 2002, Densile Mensah was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. An outstanding Track & Field athlete with the Coquitlam Cheetahs, coached by Percy Perry, Densile had all the right tools and proved that at both the Juvenile and Junior age levels. A sprinter and strong long jumper, Densile pushed and surpassed provincial standards in his pursuit of BC and Canadian Track & Field team selections.

He is missed very much by his family, friends and fellow athletes.

In tribute to Densile, Percy Perry presented the Eulogy at the Celebration of Life held in Densile's honour on May 18, 2002 in Maple Ridge. It is presented here in Densile's honour and memory.

Densile

Some are just faces in the crowd.
If they disappear, the heart does not miss a beat.
Sleep is as always.
Dawn comes and the day ahead is the same as yesterday.

Then there are those who walk into your consciousness.
Leave, for who knows where?
And perchance you may recall, that they were there
But left no mark.

Once in a while one appears and touches you.
The image lingers.
And as time passes, the image sharpens
And soon becomes a fixture among your collection of memories.

Densile, when you walked into my life
Who would have known that you would stay
And change the way I think and feel
About life and love and death.

Today I am the man I am because of you.
Your love, your caring and your giving
Have taught me that there is more to life than self.
And there is comfort in that knowledge.

You were part of me.
And when you left, a part of me was gone.
We all have lost, not only you, but a bit of us.
Today we are less and more, for a loss diminishes and builds.
