BC Athletics Names Host Club for the 2016 Americas Masters Games

BC Athletics is pleased to announce that the Vancouver Thunderbirds will be the Host Club for the organization and presentation of the Stadia and Non-Stadia Athletics Events of the “First-Ever” 2016 Americas Masters Games to be held in Vancouver August 26th to Sept 4th, 2016.

“The Vancouver Thunderbirds bring years of experience and an equal amount of expertise in the presentation of both Track & Field and Road Running Events’ said Brian McCalder, President/CEO of BC Athletics. “The club is ideally situated to the Athletics venue (UBC-Rashpal Dhillon Track & Field Oval at Thunderbird Park) and the surrounding Road Courses on the Point Grey Campus. “It was a natural fit and will provide the opportunity for the training and upgrading of Officials and Volunteers that will help in the future hosting of Provincial, National and International Athletics competitions in Vancouver,” concluded McCalder.

“This is a great honour for the Club and the legacies earned will hopefully benefit the club for years to come” said John Bird, President, Vancouver Thunderbirds Track & Field Club. “We’ve already put the word out to our members whose skills will insure a quality presentation to the athletes at the Games”, he concluded.
