Junior Development Track & Field Coach / Coordinator - Abbotsford

The Valley Royals Track & Field Club is looking for a Junior Development Track & Field Coach/Coordinator starting in the 2019 Season. Our current JD Track & Field Coach, Trevor Wight who teaches at Yale Secondary in Abbotsford, is available to help prepare the new coach for this coming season.

The Royals JD Program serves athletes from age 8 to 13 out of Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford. The season runs from the end of Spring Break to the BC JD Track & Field Championships in late July. The job involves coaching 3 evenings a week (Mon, Wed & Thurs—from 5:45 to 7:15 PM have worked well but we are flexible on the nights and times). The club hires half-a-dozen assistant coaches for the JD Track & Field Program so that the athletes can practice in small groups. The JD Coordinator plans the practices and determines which club track meets the JDs will compete in. The Coordinator attends the meets to support the athletes (If there is a two-day meet an assistant coach covers one of the days. Parents are expected to attend meets and supervise their children). In the past couple of years, we have averaged 40 - 50 Junior Development athletes during the track & field season. For photos and athlete accomplishments in the 2018 Season see blog post from July 30th 2018 at the bottom of this page on the Valley Royals Website: https://valleyroyals.ca/page/3/

The person we are looking for has a track & field background and is able to manage assistant coaches and teach active children. Ability to plan workouts and communicate the schedule & expectations to parents is essential. Knowledge of LTAD ( http://sportforlife.ca/qualitysport/long-term-athlete-development/ ) is an asset.
