Marathon weekend in BC

With two marathons taking place over the weekend and pumpkin pie, there were a lot of happy runners on the roads around BC.

24th Annual - Sun Rype Okanagan Marathon

The SunRype Okanagan Marathon returned to City Park this long weekend, bringing with it over 2,000 athletes eager to run along Kelowna’s waterfront.

After a busy weekend of mini races, and kids activities, the main events took place bright and early on Sunday morning. First, the Marathon participants set out, followed by the Half-Marathon and 10 km runners.

Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon

Sunday saw the running of the 39th Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon, taking place on the streets of Victoria and finishing in front of the Legislature Building.

The event winners were:

Marathon - Daniel Kipkoech 2:22:39 / Emily Setlack 2:46:20

Half Marathon - Trevor Hofbauer 1:05:18 / Natasha Wodak 1:11:45 (new course record)

BC Athletics Provincial Half Marathon Championship - Sean Chester / Natasha Wodak

8k - Justin Kent 23:43 / Sarah Inglis 27:27

Jim Finlayson of Victoria continued his hot streak, setting a second National Age Category record. His time of 2:25:29 improved the M45-49 record by a minute. Just three weeks ago he set the half marathon M45-49 record in Copenhagen with a 1:08:30.

Registration is now open for the 40th Anniversary event in 2019.
