Linda Campbell2004 Excellence in Coaching - Senior Coach Victoria Track and Field Club She has been a year-round Victoria Track coach for 9 years, is a volunteer judge for both high school and club meets throughout Victoria and the Island, has worked with the Oak Bay High School Track team for 6 seasons, coaching twice a week from March through June, helps organize the annual Victoria Racewalk Competition, and this year coached a male JD racewalker (Cass Tucker) from Campbell River Christian School to a 3rd place finish in the 2004 BC Summer Games. Tony Dickson2004 Excellence in Coaching - Senior Coach Comox Valley Cougars Tony is a valued member of BC Juv, Jr, Sr Track and Field Committee and is multi events and jumps coach for the Comox Valley Cougars. Head Coach of True Gold Athletics - a new BC Athletics Regional Sports Program, which is structured to be an outreach program supporting Zone 6 athletics. He is currently attending the NCI in Victoria to complete his level four coaching certification. Athletes:
Sue Northey2004 Excellence in Coaching - Senior Coach Valley Royals Sue is a current member of BC Juv, Jr, Sr Track and Field Committee and is a member of Fraser Valley High School CC Committee. Her added responsibilities include being in charge of food for the 2004 BC Summer Games. She helped at all meets hosted by Valley Royals TC and was the meet director of high school cross country meet in Chilliwack this year. Sue was a clinician at two Level 2 distance certification clinics held in Abbotsford in 2004 and she volunteers at all meets hosted by Valley Royals. Athletes:
Laurier Primeau2004 Excellence in Coaching - Senior Coach Vancouver Thunderbirds Laurier is a active member of BC Juv, Jr, Sr Track and Field Committee and is a valued member executive of the BC High School Track & Field Association. He is currently the head coach of the Vancouver Thunderbirds and St Georges School track and field program. Laurier has successfully organized many events including the "2004 Best in the West Spring Break tour to Arizona. Also, he is the coordinator for the Vancouver Thunderbirds outreach program for elementary schools in Vancouver area. Athletes:
Barb Vida2004 Excellence in Coaching - Senior Coach Valley Royals Barb is a current member of BC Juv, Jr, Sr Track and Field Committee and Barb is an NCCP Level coach who has an extensive background in track in field in both Canada and Hungary. With the Valley Royals, Barb is responsible for sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers. In addition, she will serve as a power/speed coach for the Fraser Valley Regional Center. Also, Barb is currently attending the NCI in Victoria to complete her level four coaching certification. Athletes:
Don Steen2004 Excellence in Coaching - High Performance Coach West Coast Pacers Don continues to be a driving force for track and field, especially in regards to athletics for blind and visually impaired athletes. He continues to function as both the provincial and national coach for blind and visually impaired athletes. Don's selection to the 2004 Athens Paralympic Team coaching staff marked his fourth Paralympic Games coaching staff position (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004). He is also a recent Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence award recipient for the second year in a row (2003 and 2004). At the community level, Don volunteered his time and expertise a minimum of 5 days per week during the high school track and field season to coach Burnaby Central's track and field team, which finished second at the BC High School Provincial Championships. He functions as a mentor coach to the school's head coach, Micah Chan. Over the 2004 season, Don functioned as head (and only) coach for the West Coast Pacers track and field club. Though the club has a small membership (predominantly midget and juvenile), Don continues to positively influence youth in the sport of athletics. In the area of committees, Don is a member of the Athletics Canada Paralympic Committee, Canadian Blind Sports National Athletics Commission, BC Blind Sports Provincial Athletics Commission, and Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame Committee.
