The Ian McNeil Award is awarded to a registered Official who made an
outstanding contribution to track and field and exemplified excellence in
officiating. The recipient is automatically
nominated for the “NOC Official of the Year”
Wayne Elke
Club: Kamloops TFC
Wayne is
an invaluable Official both in Kamloops, his home city, and in the many parts
of the Province where he volunteers to officiate at athletics' meets. Wayne has gone well beyond the role of an
Official at a meet and has stepped in to do so much more. Whether it be to
work at a throws competition, in the photo timing booth, or building structures
to house equipment, Wayne has been there.
In the words of more than one Official "We couldn't have done it
without him!"
----------------------
Ralph Coates Award – Long Standing Service
The Ralph Coaches Award is awarded to a registered Official who has
contributed dependable, long term and versatile service to Track & Field.
Ken Serl
Club: Kamloops TFC
As a now
retired school administrator, Ken Serl has been
involved with officiating at athletics events for more than 40 years. He is a well-experienced and thoughtful
individual and those who have had the privilege to work with him have benefited
from the knowledgeable and caring manner in which he assumes his
responsibilities. Thank you Ken, for all
that you have done.
-----------------
Mary Temple Award – Novice Official of the Year
A registered Official who, in his/her first 5 years, has focused
substantial effort on learning to be an official as well as contributed
willingly and unselfishly as a beginner Official.
Celina Wong
Club: Coquitlam Cheetahs
Like many Officials, Celina became involved with
Athletics through her son's participation in the Sport. A big thank you to Jarrett for loaning us his
Mom to help other athletes succeed in their events! Celina has volunteered to officiate at
countless numbers of events in the few years that she has been involved - The
Sun Run, cross country meets and too many track and field meets to name. Celina has been there to lend us all her
invaluable help.
-----------
Dave Coupland Award – Inspirational Award
The Dave Coupland Award is presented to a BC
Athletics member who has been an inspiration for Officials; someone who has
made it fun.
Ken
Christensen
Club: UN-BC
Ken Christensen embodies all that the Dave Coupland Award was meant to honour. Ken is a dedicated, long-serving
Official. He is an enthusiastic
supporter of all things Athletics, and Ken is quick to find the humour in all
situations. He puts athletes at ease, is
always aware of the needs of coaches and spectators and enjoys sharing a joke
or humorous comment with his fellow Officials.
Ken has a talent for making every event 'fun' for all who are there to
participate.

also with 14 and 15 year olds and the Masters group. Maureen regularly utilizes
the Run Jump Throw program as an important base component to her JD programming
as well as having fun! Her athletes are successful in both the cross country
and track and field program. Ocean Athletics had 6 athletes awarded at the JD
Awards Banquet in October 2011. Her daily accomplishments are numerous as she
is constantly working with students and athletes to help them to be the best
that they can be as people and as athletes. At the BC XC Championships Maureen
was the Meet Director, a Masters competitor and still did not miss a beat with
coaching her JD athletes.

Len van
Ryswyk
Club: South Fraser TFC
Len has been coaching with the South Fraser TFC for seven
years. Recently, two JD athletes from SFTC were honoured at the JD Awards
Banquet, held in October ’11. He feels that track is an excellent sport that is
the bases of all other sports- power and speed, endurance, building strength,
etc. As a masters athlete he understands what the body can do. He reads books,
attends nutrition and skills clinics, and watches video on track & field to
improve his coaching. During the summer he organized an evening high jump
clinic for Langley, Oceans and South Fraser with each club sponsoring one
night. He sometimes takes athletes to gymnastic facilities to improve their
high jump, and pole vault technique. He was the director of the Jr. Olympics
Track meet. In 2010 he was the Summer Games coach for Zone 3, and will be
helping with the organization of the 2012 Summer Games which will be held at
the South Fraser Track. Len coaches high jump, pole vault, power and speed,
long jump and hurdles. Len is a very positive coach who always encourages
his athletes to do their best in practice and at competitions. South
Fraser TFC had 2 athletes awarded at the JD Banquet in October 2011.

Tom Masich

In 1973, Tom formed the Prince
George Track and Field Club and for the past 38 years has been an active leader
in the club. Tom’s hard work and support has been a tremendous role
model for many of Prince George’s young athletes. He has opened doors for
some of the city’s top athletes guiding and coaching them through their Junior
Development years and on to competing for Canada. Tom was inducted in to the
Prince George Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. The cities’ Masich Place Stadium was
