National Officials Committee Meeting Report

National Officials Committee Meeting (April 15-17, 2011), Winnipeg  Report from John Cull The National Officials Committee (Athletics Canada) meets twice a year; Spring and Fall. Provincial Branch Committee Chairs participate in the Spring Meeting. All Provinces except PEI and Newfoundland/Labrador were represented at this year’s meeting, and presented their Annual Reports. This is a great opportunity to catch up on developments in officiating in the other Provinces, and pick up useful ideas. The Branch Chairs all struggle with the same issues; How to attract and recruit new members How to recognize, reward and retain experienced Senior officials How to present training and mentoring opportunities that keep officials current and effective How to cover an increasing number of events, with a maxed out work force All Branches are experiencing increased pressure to staff meets organized by Schools and Special athlete organizations. BC is not alone in this….good volunteers are in short supply across the Country. It is a particular pleasure to report that our own Judy Armstrong (Kamloops) was recognized as NOC Official of the Year for 2010.
