Erin Burrett wins BC Marathon Championship on debut

Erin Burrett won a very competitive BC Marathon Championship on her debut at the distance at the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon.

Burrett ran a negative split, passing halfway in 1:19:55 and coming home in 2:39:17. Not only did she win the BC Championship, she also blew by defending race champion Lioudmila Kortchaguina in the final 500m to take the overall win, and earn over $5,000 in the process.

Two-time former winner, Catrin Jones also ran a even pace, to take third overall and second BC in 2:44:29. While Shauna Gersbach was delighted to run under 2:50, as even splits saw her home in 2:49:01 for 4th place (3rd BC).

On the men's side, Shaun Stephens-Whale was also debuting at the marathon, and was leading the BC Championship through halfway in 1:16:09. But experience won through, as a regular Victoria Marathon competitor, Oliver Utting came through from a minute behind to take 3rd place overall, top Canadian and the BC Championship in 2:34:39. Utting was also top master.

Jordan Maynard would also pass Stephens-Whale in the second half, taking second in 2:36:40. Stephens-Whale hung on for third in 2:38:23.
