First Road Running Instructor Course heralded a success

Fifteen run leaders recently completed the first NCCP Road Running Instructor Course in Canada. The pilot program was written by Lynn Kanuka and taught by Barb Vida and Lynn Kanuka.

In partnership with SportMed BC, participants in the weekend long course received instruction, both practical and classroom based, on a range of topics, including:

  • Long Term Athlete Development
  • Energy Systems
  • Strength Training
  • Technical and Skill Analysis
  • Planning a Practice
  • Designing a Basic Walk/Run Clinic
  • Making Ethical Decisions
  • Mental Preparation
  • Nutrition
  • Safety/Risk Management
  • Injury Management
  • CPR Training

Participants will use their newly acquired knowledge to lead run clinics, and may progress to become Certified NCCP Coaches.
