Do I need to know all my team’s details when registering?
No, you can register today without know the details of any teammates! You’ll just need to update your team’s members, running order, and shirt sizes by the September 24th Deadline at Trackie.com. Login with the email/password you used to register, then go to “My Account” to see a list of upcoming events you are attending. Here you’ll see your Whistler 50 entry with the options to “Manage” and “Edit Entries” to make changes. Instructions can also be found in your entry confirmation email.
Why 50 miles and not kilometres?
80K is not a recognised distance for ultra performance purposes (selection for national teams, qualifier for other Ultras, etc.), but 50 miles is (somewhat like 1 mile vs. 1600m on the track). Rather than creating both an 80K relay and a 50 mile ultra, we decided to keep the distances the same. Hence the Whistler 50 rather than the Whistler 80. If you’re counting, 50 miles is 80.4672km.
Can I listen to music/wear headphones during the race?
Music is permitted, but runners can only have one earphone in/on, as other racers will need to pass each other and we do sometimes have wildlife encounters at the event. For safety reasons we recommend not running with music, but as long as a runner has one ear free to hear someone approaching from behind this is acceptable.
I lost (found) something at the Whistler 50. Where can I find (return) it?
Lost and Found will be located upstairs at Whistler Brew House until 5pm on Race Day. Otherwise please contact whistler50@bcathletics.org.
Where can we park?
If you are staying at a hotel, use the hotel parking. Otherwise use the day parking lots accessed off Lorimer Road or Blackcomb Way. Note, lots 4 & 5 are closest to the start/finish/exchanges in Olympic Plaza. Please check whistler.ca/parking for the latest parking rates and regulations.
Can I bring my bike and cycle with my runner?
No, please leave your bike at home. The trails are open to the public, and we must limit the traffic we put on the trails. Additional cyclists will make it more difficult and dangerous for runners to pass each other and other trail users. There will be aid stations at approximately 4km intervals, so there is no need for you to provide direct support for your runner. Any team seen pacing a runner on a bike, or otherwise providing assistance, will result in disqualification of the team.
Can I run with a running stroller?
As some sections of the trail are a bit more technical and there are a few narrow bridges, we cannot accommodate running strollers for safety reasons.
Are there any age restrictions for the event?
For safety reasons, we have set the minimum age as 16, because parts of the course are along wooded trails where no other person may be in sight. Ultra participants must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers must also be over 16 years old.
Can I change my shirt size?
You may change your shirt-size choice online up until September 25th. After that date, you’ll have to wait until Race Day when everyone else has picked up their shirts, then we can try to exchange your size. If you register for the event after September 25th, we cannot guarantee that your requested shirt size will be available on Race Day. Login instructions to make changes through Trackie.com are in your entry confirmation email.
What is the refund policy?
All race fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. This includes race cancellation due to any act of God or force majeure, including, without limitation, weather, fire, flood, strike, labour dispute, civil commotion, riot or threat, or similar cause beyond the control of BC Athletics.
