Changes to Events and Age Groups

At the recent BC Athletics Annual General Meeting a number of motion were passed related to events and age groups

Some additions to the events for the Junior Development athletes

  • 60m added to the 9,10 and 11 year olds
  • Pole vault added for both male and female 13 year olds

Some deletions to the events for some of the junior development age groups

  • 200 metre event will be eliminated from the 9 and 10 year old age groups
  • 400 metre event will be eliminated from the 9 and 10 year old age groups
  • 200 metre hurdle event will be eliminated from the 11 year old age group
  • The Medley Relay event will be eliminated from 9, 10 and 11 year old age groups

A separate resolution focused on the 15 year old age group and some changes were passed:

  • The 15 year old age category now will come under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile, Junior and Senior Track and Field Committee as Youth 15
  • The provincial Championships for the Youth 15 athletes will be held in conjunction with one or more of the Juvenile, Junior and Senior age group championships
  • The Combined Events competition for the Youth 15 females will be contested as the Heptathlon with 80m hurdles and by the Youth 15 males as the Octathlon with 100m hurdles

A further motion altered the steeplechase event for the Juvenile age category from 1500m steeplechase to the distance of 2000 metres for both male and female athletes.

The technical specifications on the BC Athletics website is currently being up-dated and will soon reflect the above mentioned changes to our event listings.

2007 Memberships

Members of BC Athletics affiliated clubs must sign up with BC Athletics through their club Registrar. Only individual memberships from Unattached athletes will be processed by the BC Athletics office.

Any clubs who have not sent in their BC Athletics 2007 Club Registrars Waiver must do so immediately. Once the waiver is completed and submitted to the BC Athletics office information will be forwarded with a link to the ACDirect on-line membership database.

All individuals who are active in the club at this point in time including athletes, coaches, officials, and club executives must have their 2007 memberships in place in order to be sure insurance coverage for the club is in place.

Canadian Half Marathon Championship Cancelled for 2007

February 27 2007 - Athletics Canada announced today that there will not be a Canadian Half Marathon Championship in 2007. A variety of factors, including host location and timing, were taken into consideration and after careful examination it was decided that it was not in the best interest of the athletes to host the Championships.

The Canadian Half Marathon Championships will return in 2008. For those parties interested in bidding for the 2008 Canadian Half Marathon Championships, bid information will be available shortly on the Athletics Canada website. Cross Country

2006 Lower Mainland Cross Country Series Awards

Congratulations to all participants and award winners in the 2006 Lower Mainland Cross Country Series. Prizes were awarded to the first 3 boys and girls in each age group. There are a few trophies still to be claimed. Please email Chris Dalhuisen at to make arrangements to pick up trophies.

Lost and Found at the 2006 Jack Brow Meet

Someone left a camcorder at the Jack Brow meet last summer and the Kelowna Track & Field Club would like to see that it gets home. It is a Sharp VL-E610 Viewcam, found in a red cloth carrying case.
