Due to short staffing in the BC Athletics office we will be featuring a streamlined version of the BCAB (BC Athletics Electronic Bulletin) each week. Please refer to prior issues in order to keep up to date on all on-going items. Past issues can be found at

We are also experiencing difficulties with Telus circulating the BCAB to subscribers. We are hoping to have that problem resolved shortly.

Thanks for your patience!

Jack Harrison  December 23, 1909 - September 19, 2008

BC Athletics has recently learned of the passing of Jack Harrison, BC Sports Hall of Fame Inductee in Track & Field. An active and long time Track & Field athlete and coach, Jack was instrumental in developing Track & Field during the early years of sport development in Greater Vancouver.

BC Athletics extends the support and thanks of the membership to his family and friends.

Jack was born on a stormy night December 23, 1909 and passed away peacefully in his 99th year on September 19, 2008. He was surrounded by his loving wife Marilyn, daughters Shirley, Jacquie, Tricia and grandson Brian. Jack loved his life; he always had a positive outlook and maintained this attitude through his last days. Jack was the oldest living retired member of the Vancouver Police Department having served for 33 years. Fondly known as "The Flying Cop" he retired in 1964 with the rank of Inspector. Retired but not ready to stop Jack enjoyed a second career of 20 years with Great Pacific Management. Jack was an avid track and field enthusiast devoting much of his life to his passion both as an athlete and a coach. He was honoured for his contributions to Track and Field being inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. Jack was predeceased by first wife Alice, siblings Dick, Gwen and Tyne and son-in-law Colin. He will be missed by his loving wife of 46 years Marilyn, his four children and their families; son Bill, daughters; Shirley, Jacquie (John) and Tricia (Tim). Grandfather to Sandra (Rob), David (Nina), Paul (Michelle), Brian (Alison), Justine, Jenelle, Jack, Delaney and Georgia. Great-Grandfather to Aidan, Rhys and Harrison. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life and achievements at the Richmond Funeral Home on Saturday, September 27th at 2pm. Donations in Jack's memory will be gratefully accepted at The Kidsport Fund Richmond Chapter, 260-3820 Cessna Road, Richmond, BC V7B 0A2.
