Membership Types

Your BC Athletics membership is an investment towards your development in the sport of athletics, Provincially, Nationally and Internationally. For you, the member, it provides benefits to support and assist you in your participation at every level. At the organizational level, your membership adds to the strength of BC Athletics, and the ability to support its members by giving them a voice within BC and Canada.

BC Athletics' foundation is derived from its members, whose interests range from fun & fitness to elite level participation at the World and Olympic Level. The programs and services that BC Athletics delivers are created to provide members with a positive, productive and enjoyable experience in Athletics. It is our hope that the members of BC Athletics are served well and will join us in a healthy, long and active life.

Note:  BC Athletics memberships are valid from January 1st to December 31st each year.  In order to ensure your membership doesn't lapse you can renew for the next year beginning September 1st.

  • Used to participate in sanctioned events when the individual does not hold an annual BC Athletics Competitive Athlete membership.

Membership FAQ's

Who can be a BC Athletics member?

  • Membership is open to all residents of BC living inside the province and those living temporarily outside the province due to school or employment.
  • If you hold a current, competitive athletics membership with another province you do not need to take out a BC Athletics membership.
  • If you do not reside in BC but need an Athletics Canada membership to take part in programs regulated by the requirement to be either a Canadian citizen or Landed Immigrant - ie: BC and Canadian Team programs and funding programs - please contact the BC Athletics office.

How do I join BC Athletics?

  • If you belong to a BC Athletics affiliated club you will join BC Athletics through your club membership.
  • If you're not a member of a BC Athletics affiliated club you are "Unattached" and can register online with BC Athletics.

What is the membership term?

  • The membership year is January 1st through to December 31st.
    • If you have never been a BC Athletics member before -
      • And you sign up between January 1st and August 31st - your membership will be valid from the application date through to December 31st in the current year.
      • And you apply for membership After August 31st - you will receive an extended membership valid from the application date through to December 31st of the following year. Calculate your age as of December 31st in the following year.
    • If you are renewing your BC Athletics membership?
      • …and you were a member last year or are currently a member this year:
        • Your membership will be valid from the application date through to December 31st in the current year.
      • …and you were not a member last year but had a membership previous to last year:
        • If you apply for a membership between January 1st and August 31st your membership will expire on December 31st in the current year.
        • If you apply for membership between September 1st and December 31st you will receive an extended membership valid from the application date through to December 31st in the following year. Calculate your age as of December 31st in the following year.

How do I calculate my age?

  • Age is calculated as of December 31st in the year of membership.
  • For members receiving the extended membership ( see "What is the membership term") age is calculated as of December 31st in the following year.

Can memberships be pro-rated during the membership year?

  • Memberships are not pro-rated.

Are memberships refundable?

  • Memberships are not refundable.

What events are appropriate for me to take part in?

  • Events and Technical Specifications for Men and Women in athletics can be found here.
  • BC Athletics follows the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model which is based on the research of the Canadian Sport Centres LTAD expert group. The principles of this research has been adopted by Athletics Canada and BC Athletics as the framework for the proper management of youth and adolescent growth development processes, and identified the critical periods of accelerated adaption to training. Can I change my membership type during the year or add a membership type?

  • Memberships can be upgraded at any time during the year.
  • If you are with a club contact your club Registrar.
  • If you are Unattached contact BC Athletics.
  • You can hold multiple membership types but will only be charged the highest fee over all types applied for. Make sure you indicate all of the membership types that you require to cover all of your participation in the sport.

How do I get an Athletics Canada membership number?

  • Your BC Athletics membership number is also your Athletics Canada membership number.

Is there insurance coverage with my membership?

  • The insurance coverage provided is noted with each membership type.

Who is required to have a Criminal Records Check?

  • Criminal Records Checks (CRC) are required with all Coach, Official and Associate memberships.
  • Club members will get their CRC's done through their clubs.
  • Unattached members should contact BC Athletics.

Criminal Record Check

 

Criminal Records Checks (CRC) are required with Coach, Official and Associate memberships and must be current within the past 4 years from the date membership is applied for.

Club members will get their CRC done through their clubs.  In most cases CRC's can be done online.  Where not available CRC's  obtained at local police stations and RCMP detachments.

Individuals who are required to have a CRC in place will have their memberships processed once the CRC has been applied for.

Individuals who are required to have a current CRC as part of their employment and have a CRC on file with their employer can complete a Voluntary Declaration Form (VDF) indicating the organization holding the current CRC.

Unattached members requiring a CRC must contact the BC Athletics office to request an online CRC application link.

Coach, Official and Associate memberships require Criminal Records Checks as part of the membership application process. The Voluntary Declaration Form can be completed for individuals who have, as part of their employment, a current (within 4 years of the date of membership application) Criminal Records Check on file at their place of employment.

Club Transfers & 2nd Claim Club Status

2nd Claim Club Status

BC Athletics club members who wish to claim status with a second club during the membership year must complete a Declaration of 2nd Claim Club form and submit it to the BC Athletics office in order for 2nd Claim Club Status to be recognized.

The form can be initiated by the member, 1st claim club or 2nd claim club.  

  1. Download the form and save it to your computer
  2.  Complete your section directly on the form and save it
  3. Forward it to the next partyfor completion and so on until the form is fully completed
  4. Once sections 1 - 3 are completed forward it to Sam Collier - sam.collier@bcathletics.org in the BC Athletics office.  
  5. A copy of the approved form will be sent to all parties.

Club Transfers

BC Athletics club members who wish to transfer to another club during the membership year are required to have an Application for Club Member Transfer form completed and submitted to the BC Athletics office in order for the transfer to be formally recognized.

Membership Types

2018 Trackie.me Access Waiver

Clubs are required to submit a waiver each membership year for each club member who has access to Trackie.me.  Those wishing to have access to the 2018 membership year must have an approved waiver on file at the BC Athletics office before any 2018 memberships can be entered.  The 2018 membership database will be accessible beginning September 1st, 2017.  All individuals with access must have a current "Associate" membership in place prior to receiving access.  

The form can be initiated by the person receiving Trackie.me access or the club executive member making the request.  Download the form and complete your section and then forward it to the other party.  Once sections 1 & 2 have been completed forward the form to Sam Collier at sam.collier@bcathletics.org for approval.  Both parties will receive an approved form for your records.

Club Membership Types & Application Forms

BC Athletics Club Memberships/Renewals for 2018 will be due December 31, 2017.  Member clubs renew their club memberships on-line through Trackie.me

New clubs signing up as a BC Athletics affiliated club for the first time must complete and submit a club appication form.

Full Club Membership

Athletics Post Secondary (School) Affiliate Club

The purposes of the Athletics Post Secondary (School) Club include:

  • The training of Athletes
  • The hosting of competitions, camps and workshops
  • Competition in college/university and athletics association sanctioned competitions
  • Promotion and development of the sport of Athletics

All individual members of the Athletics Post Secondary Affiliate Club are required to have current and appropriate membership with BC Athletics or other Provincial/Territorial or National Athletics Federations (as per BC Athletics, Athletics Canada and IAAF Rules).

Athletics Society/Organization Affiliate Club

The purposes of the Athletics Society/Organization Affiliate Club shall be limited to:

  • The hosting of competitions in Athletics and/or
  • The promotion of and support of the development of Athletics

The Athletics Society/Organization Affiliate Club requires that all individual members have current and appropriate membership with BC Athletics.

2017/2018 School Club and School District Memberships

Membership for all students, teachers and sponsors involved in Track & Field, Cross Country and Road Running in your school.  Membership is valid from September 1st through to June 30th.

Registration Process:

  • Complete a School Club Membership application form
  • Submit either a school enrollment list or a list of specific athletes indicating gender and a full date of birth.  This information is required for our government reporting and will be held in strictest confidence.  The list can be submitted electronically to sam.collier@bcathletics.org.
  • Complete BC Athletics School Coach membership applications for coaches
  • Ensure that all forms are signed by the appropriate authorities
  • Make copies for your records as required.
  • Submit all forms and the appropriate fee (payable to BC Athletics)

  • Once the application has been processed the Head Coach will be advised.  The school name will be added to the School Club members list posted weekly on the BC Athletics website.  This list is used by sanctioned events to verify membership.

BC Athletics School Coach Membership application form

Membership for all of the schools in your School District including all students, teachers and sponsors involved in Track & Field, Cross Country and Road Running.  Membership is valid from September 1st through to June 30th.  

Public school district designations are used to identify which School District a school falls in.  Public schools sign up separately from Independent schools.  Please use the correct form when applying for a School District Membership.

Registration Process:

  • Complete the appropriate School District Club membership application form
  • Ensure that a main contact person is indicated and provide contact information.
  • Prepare a list of all schools in the District.  Include a contact name at each school or a person who will act as the contact for the schools in the district.  This person will forward any and all information to the schools
  • Have School District Coach Membership applications completed for all school coaches in the district who wish to take advantage of the complimentary Coach membership.
  • Ensure that all forms are signed by the required authorities
  • Make copies for your records where necessary
  • Submit all forms together with the fee of $210.00 (payable to BC Athletics) to Sam Collier at the BC Athletics office.
