Provincial Cross Country Championships are headed to South Surrey

South Surrey’s Crescent Park will challenge BC’s top cross country athletes as they take to the trails in the BC Athletics Cross Country Championships on October 22, hosted by Ocean Athletics Track & Field Club.

The Championships are open to all BC Athletics Competitive Members and Road & Trail Members. The event over the years has seen several future Olympians take part to continue developing their skills over the fall/winter seasons.

Cross country has been a favourite amongst Canadian Olympic steeplechase athletes including Alycia Butterworth, John Gay, Chris Winter, Regan Yee and Genevieve Lalonde. Seeing distance athletes like Natasha Wodak, Luc Bruchet, and Hilary Stellingwerf also take podiums over the past few years. Cross Country has been a foundation in the development of our future athletics leaders as they progress on to University.

The Championships will serve as the main selection criteria for the BC Team that will head to the National Championships in Ottawa on November 26th. Up to 44 athletes from U18 to Master will be selected to represent the province. Placing at Nationals will also be the primary criteria to select the National Team at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia February 18, 2023.

Registration is now open, until October 20th. https://www.TrackieReg.com/BCXC2022

The last two live Championships were hosted in Saanich by the Prairie Inn Harriers. BC Athletics thanks the club for their extra work to produce the event over a few challenging years.
