Record breaking weekend at the BMO Vancouver Marathon

Perfect weather and a record number of registrants, added the icing to the cake for the BMO Vancouver Marathon. Catrin Jones of Victoria and Rob Watson of Vancouver were both able to defend their 2018 BC Provincial Marathon titles to take the podium in Sundays BC Athletics Championship event. Following Catrin onto the podium were Cheryl Pepin (2nd) and Claudia Edwards (3rd). On the men’s side, Craig McMillan (2nd) and Chris Napier (3rd) rounded out the top spots.

2018 Boston Marathon winner Yuki Kawauchi, making his Canadian debut, crossed the finish line as the winner of the marathon with a time of 2:15:01, breaking the course record by well over three minutes. Yuko Mizuguchi took home the women’s marathon title with 2:41:28.

In the half marathon, Vancouverite Dayna Pidhoresky won the women’s side with 1:13:07 and Kenyan Haron Sirma won the men’s with a 1:03:47, fresh of his win at the TC10k.
