BC Athletics CEO
The BC Athletics Board of Directors invites applicants for the position of BC Athletics CEO.
POSITION: CEO, BC Athletics
Employment Location: BC Athletics Offices (Burnaby, BC)
Reports to: BC Athletics Board of Directors
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000
Overview
BC Athletics is the Provincial not-for-profit amateur sport organization for Track & Field, Road, Marathons/Ultras, Cross Country, Trail, Mountain Running and Race Walking.
A Branch member of Athletics Canada, BC Athletics is made up of individual members, member clubs and affiliated organizations. The purpose of the Association is to promote, encourage and build the broadest level of participation in the sport of Athletics along with the highest levels of proficiency in all areas of the sport.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
The CEO is accountable, and responsible, for the leadership and day-to-day management of BC Athletics’ operations in support of the association’s strategic plan.
Reporting to the BC Athletics Board of Directors, the CEO will work to build organizational strength (financial health, human resource capacity, workplace environment and program excellence) that is responsive to our members, key stakeholders and the public.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, high level administrative capabilities and a background of sound financial management. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of the sport sector, a demonstrated history of maintaining key relationships, and a track record of building and leading teams.
CEO Responsibilities
The General responsibilities of the CEO include, but are not limited to:
- Overall management of the affairs of BC Athletics with a focus on the delivery of program excellence in support of: membership growth, sport development and a positive experience for all in a safe sport environment that fosters respect, equity, diversity, inclusion, health and excellence as primary values.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at the local, provincial and federal levels for the strategic and operational success of BC Athletics.
- Act as the principle spokesperson for BC Athletics on general matters of business and operations.
- Serve as the main point of contact between members, the Board of Directors, BC Athletics staff, key stakeholders and the public.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Chair of the Board of Directors and ensure submission of reports to the Board of Directors as required.
- Be a signing officer for the Association with full authority to conduct BC Athletics business within the scope of the Association’s policies and financial limits.
- Ensure compliance with the law in all business operations and Association matters.
- Strategic Planning/Execution to ensure that BC Athletics continues to focus on, and achieve, its Strategic Priorities.
- Financial Management that ensures the current and future financial health of BC Athletics.
- Human Resource management that meets the staffing needs of BC Athletics.
- Marketing & Development of BC Athletics current and future programs, services, and properties.
- Risk Management, inclusive of Safe Sport, Insurance Coverage, Legal and the BC Athletics Disciplinary Process.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have/be:
- A post-secondary degree; Bachelors or higher.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including the building of effective teams.
- Excellent financial management and budgeting expertise.
- Strategic thinker with a history of translating strategic thinking into action and output.
- Self-starter with good problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Proven planning and decision-making skills.
- Experience in, and knowledge of, the sport sector; preferably in the sport of Athletics.
- Experience working with government funding agencies/partners.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and achieve deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours. Some weekend work and travel will be required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Person’s Sector Verification required.
